In October 1979, the exchange announced plans to establish a separate division, the Canadian Financial Market, to offer futures trading in treasury bills, government bonds, gold and gold options.... In 1972, it changed its name from Winnipeg Grain and Produce Exchange to Winnipeg Commodity Exchange, reflecting its ambitions as a commodities exchange and futures market, although futures had been traded at the exchange since 1904.
