Smelling is a good way to determine whether meat and dairy are spoiled. If it smells rancid or sour, you might as well throw it away.... The smell test, though, only works for some foods(such as milk, meats and cooking oils). Just keep in mind that not all bacteria smell bad.

Strap strung inside shafts of sulky to keep the horse swinging the rear end to the right and left and traveling sideways on its gait.

Gaiting straps are put on a horse to keep his rear end in line. I’ve put them on trotters on both sides. Sometimes they’ll throw their feet out pretty wide into a wheel or the sulky, particularly on a half-mile track where they’re going at a terrific clip around the turns. A lot of good horses that I’ve raced had to wear gaiting straps over a half-mile track. A gaiting strap catches them up along the stifle and keeps them from throwing their foot out.

After the rest day, the Tour de France is a four-day race for anyone who wants to make it to Paris ... It will be interesting to see if the Lantern Rouge (last place) will change. We might as well look there because I don’t think the Yellow Jersey will change.

As many of you know, lanterne rouge is the name given to the last-placed rider on general classification in the Tour de France. Although clearly neither the fastest nor the strongest rider in the field, what typifies the lanterne rouge is their stubborn, tenacious refusal to throw in the towel(when their legs, and good sense, might dictate otherwise).

The term is supposedly from the fact that the last railway carriage on a train, traditionally had a red lantern on the back of it.
