Agents of Parliament are a unique group of independent statutory officers who serve to scrutinize the activity of government. They report directly to Parliament rather than to government or an individual minister and, as such, exist to serve Parliament in relation to Parliament's oversight role.

The Auditor General of Canada, the Chief Electoral Officer, the Commissioner of Official Languages, the Privacy Commissioner, the Information Commissioner, the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner and the Commissioner of Lobbying are among those generally considered to be part of the agent of Parliament group.

Although it is very commonly used in this context, the expression "officer of Parliament" is considered by some to be too vague and confusing, as it can also refer to other officers that serve Parliament, such as the Sergeant-at-Arms, the Usher of the Black Rod, the Law Clerk or the Parliamentary Librarian.

In health, agriculture, and government, the word "organophosphates" refers to a group of insecticides or nerve agents acting on the enzyme acetylcholinesterase(the pesticide group carbamates also act on this enzyme, but through a different mechanism). The term is used often to describe virtually any organic phosphorus(V)-containing compound, especially when dealing with neurotoxins... Organophosphate pesticides(as well as sarin and VX nerve gas) irreversibly inactivate acetylcholinesterase, which is essential to nerve function in insects, humans, and many other animals. Organophosphate pesticides affect this enzyme in varied ways, and thus in their potential for poisoning.
