Alberta Treasury Branches, also known as ATB Financial, is a full service financial institution and crown corporation owned by the Government of Alberta and based in Edmonton, Alberta. With assets of C$17. 6 billion, ATB is the largest Albertan-based financial institution. ATB is not a chartered bank, and unlike other banks operating in Canada, ATB is regulated entirely by the Government of Alberta, under the authority of the Alberta Treasury Branches Act, Chapter A-37. 9, 1997, and Treasury Branches Regulation 187/97. ATB was created by the first Social Credit ministry under William Aberhart in 1938, after earlier attempts to place Alberta's banks under the provincial government's control were thwarted by the federal government. The first Alberta Treasury Board was opened in Rocky Mountain House on September 29 of that year. ATB is the most significant surviving remmant of social credit economic policies in Alberta. 1, record 47, English, - Alberta%20Treasury%20Branches

This policy replaces the Policy on Long-term Capital Plans for departments and agencies listed in Section 2 of the Financial Administration Act. The objective of this policy is to contribute to the achievement of value for money and sound stewardship in government program delivery through effective investment planning. Effective investment planning should ensure a diligent and rational manner of resource allocation for both existing and new assets, and for acquired services within existing departmental reference levels. 1, record 58, English, - Policy%20on%20Investment%20Planning%20%26ndash%3B%20Assets%20and%20Acquired%20Services

1, record 59, French, - Politique%20sur%20la%20s%C3%A9curit%C3%A9%20%2D%20Guide%20du%20gestionnaire

A statement which discloses the government's cash balances and investments, and amounts owing to and by the government at the end of the year. It differs in some ways from a conventional private sector balance sheet. Two major differences concern items that are not reported on this statement : capital assets, having been accounted for as expenditures, and tax revenues receivable since tax revenues are reported on a cash basis. The difference, therefore, between total assets and total liabilities is simply the aggregate of annual budgetary deficits and surpluses determined in accordance with the accounting policies of the government. 2, record 76, English, - Statement%20of%20Assets%20and%20Liabilities

1, record 76, French, - %C3%89tat%20de%20l%27actif%20et%20du%20passif

Initiated by the Alberta Government, the Power Purchase Arrangement auction is designed to address the concern that three of the province's major power companies own the vast majority of electricity generating assets-giving them the ability to influence electricity prices in a competitive market.
