Recent work on the creative workforce in the UK [United Kingdom] has suggested systematic exclusions for women, ethnic minorities, and those from working-class social origins. Moreover, these exclusions shape a powerful sense of what a creative worker, whether artist, actor, writer, director, or musician, is. This "somatic norm" in creative occupations is manifested in the figure of the able-bodied, white, middle-class-origin man, a norm also dominant across other elite occupations in Britain.... The dominance of the white male, middle-class body was intertwined with the ideal type of government civil servant, a "somatic norm" serving to exclude those who did not fit this norm. 3, record 12, English, - somatic%20norm

In 1930, the Saskatchewan Treaty Protection Association was formed to protect the Treaty Rights of Indians in the Fort Qu'Appelle area. During the 1940's it became the Protective Association for Indians and their Treaties. In 1943, the Association of Indians of Saskatchewan became the largest organization in Saskatchewan. In 1946, a conference was convened by the Government of Saskatchewan at which 60 representatives of the Cree, Sioux, Saulteaux and Assiniboine Tribes of Saskatchewan discussed the feasibility of forming a single Indian organization. A resolution was passed favouring such establishment. Follow up meetings of Saskatchewan Indian leaders representing all Saskatchewan Bands were held at Duck Lake and Saskatoon. This resulted in the formation of the Union of Saskatchewan Indians. In 1957, a conference of Saskatchewan Chiefs and Councillors laid plans for a new organization. A second conference in 1958 resulted in the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians. By the late 1970's the swift pace of the political developments of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians(FSI) led to the drive for reorganization of the structure and Constitution of the Federation. On April 16, 1982, the Saskatchewan Chiefs agreed to form Canada's first Indian Legislative Assembly. The political convention they signed re-structured the FSI, so that the provincial governing body is no longer a non-profit society but a true federation of nations. Now known as the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, the Chiefs control the executive and administrative functions of government at the band, tribal council and provincial levels of Indian Government. 1, record 58, English, - Federation%20of%20Saskatchewan%20Indian%20Nations

Governments establish public inquiries to investigate and report on matters of substantial public interest related to good governance or public business within a jurisdiction... A commission of inquiry is established and paid for by government; however, it is an independent body. A public inquiry is not a trial. The commission performs its duties without expressing conclusions about civil or criminal liability of any person or organization. Commissions of Inquiry hear evidence through public hearings. The hearing functions in much the same way as a court of law, although not all of the same rules apply... 2, record 59, English, - board%20of%20inquiry

Rowing Canada Aviron(RCA) is a nonprofit organization recognized by the Government of Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in Canada. RCA was originally founded as "The Canadian Association of Amateur Oarsmen" in 1880 by the rowing clubs then in existence-to coordinate and regulate the sport of amateur rowing. In 1974 the name was changed to "The Canadian Amateur Rowing Association-Association Canadienne d’Aviron Amateur", which is still the legally constituted name, although Rowing Canada Aviron is now used as the operating name. RCA's mission is to provide and manage services and programs for the membership within a fully integrated rowing system model, which furnishes opportunities for every individual to reach his or her potential at all levels of participation. 5, record 62, English, - Rowing%20Canada%20Aviron

Many important wildlife habitats are found on private properties, such as cottages, woodlots, ranches and farms. The people who own these lands play an important role in protecting such habitats by limiting certain activities and practices, and encouraging restoration and stewardship. But what happens if they can no longer care for their property, or it passes out of their hands? Since 1995, Environment Canada's Ecological Gifts Program has enabled individual and corporate landowners to protect their cherished piece of nature forever by donating ecologically sensitive land to an environmental charity or government body. An "ecogift" can be a donation of land or a partial interest in land-such as a conservation easement, covenant or servitude. In addition to the peace of mind of knowing that the land will be managed by the recipient according to mutually agreed-upon conservation goals and objectives, donors are also eligible to receive income tax benefits for their donation. 1, record 72, English, - Ecological%20Gifts%20Program

1, record 72, French, - Programme%20des%20dons%20%C3%A9cologiques

Saskatchewan's Workers’ Compensation Board is an independent body created by provincial legislation, the Workers’ Compensation Act 1979, General Regulations, and Exclusion Regulations to administer a compensation system on behalf of workers and employers. Guided by the Meredith Principles and our vision, mission and values, we are financially independent of government and special-interest groups. We collect assessment premiums from employers and make appropriate payments to injured workers from a common fund. An effective system requires co-operative partnerships among workers, employers, caregivers and WCB administrators. 2, record 94, English, - The%20Workers%27%20Compensation%20Board

The Review of Veterans’ Care Needs is an important policy and research body, established in 1996, that supports the Department's efforts to design programs and services that are driven by client need rather than program requirements, improving our ability to make evidence-based decisions. Through a series of research tools, including a literature review, focus groups with clients, their care givers and a number of health providers, and analysis of health services offered by the community and other levels of government in each province, our Review of Veterans’ Care Needs project team has been able to identify changes in the needs of aging veterans, gaps in benefits and services and VAC can best add value to their care. 1, record 95, English, - Review%20of%20Veterans%27%20Care%20Needs
