A Public Works and Government Services Canada business project that will automate procurement, facilitate communication between the department and the clients, and provide the suppliers with electronic access to bidding. A2K has three elements : the Open Bidding Service, which has been operational since 1992. FASTRACK Automated Purchasing Service, which has been operational since August 1994; and the Automated Buyer Environment, which has been launched nationally in 1995.

The next most popular choice has been the trade sale, where a buyer usually from within the same industry as the tendered enterprise(or a related industry in the case of a monopoly) is selected by the government to purchase the enterprise outright. States have often opted for a trade sale for industries that at the time of sale were not profitable, but could profitably be incorporated into the existing intrastructre of a larger corporation.
