Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The effect of a government subsidy is to lower the final price of a product or service, which is why subsidies can become an international trade issue. The most common examples are direct payments by government to industry to help finance a large-scale project such as a major oil project, to help fund the costs of developing a new technology, to investigate foreign markets, or to locate an activity in a slow-growth region of the country. Subsidies can consist of grants, low-interest loans, or tax incentives. 3, record 1, English, - subsidy

In June 2000, the federal, provincial and territorial governments except Quebec signed the Canada-wide Standards for Particulate Matter(PM) and Ozone. These standards commit government to significantly reduce PM and ground-level ozone by 2010. The Canada-wide Standards for PM and Ozone are an important step towards the long-term goal of minimizing the risks of these pollutants to human health and the environment. They represent a balance between achieving the best health and environmental protection possible and the feasibility and costs of reducing the pollutant emissions that contribute to PM and ground-level ozone in ambient air. 1, record 39, English, - Canada%2Dwide%20Standards%20for%20Particulate%20Matter%20%28PM%29%20and%20Ozone

1, record 39, French, - standards%20pancanadiens%20relatifs%20aux%20particules%20%28PM%29%20et%20%C3%A0%20l%26rsquo%3Bozone

In 1992-1993, a group of senior officials in Canadian federal departments created a collaborative forum called the Council on Administration. Their intent was to increase efficiency, improve service delivery, and cut costs by means of a series of initiatives called "Locally Shared Support Services"(LSSS). Because the member departments and agencies co-tenanted a large government office complex(Les Terrasses de la Chaudière(TLC) 1, located in Hull, within the National Capital Region) the founders of the Council saw potential for achieving these goals through the power of collective action... Since this innovative change process was launched in 1992, LSSS initiatives have led to the elimination of duplication; improved productivity and savings; sharing of innovative ideas, expertise and best practices; and development of models for use by other departments and agencies in the NRC and other regions... 3, record 50, English, - Locally%20Shared%20Support%20Services

The Western Canada Concept was a Western Canadian political party founded in 1980 to promote the separation of the provinces of Manitoba, Saskathewan, Alberta and British Columbia and the Yukon and Northwest Territories from Canada in order to create a new nation. The party's concerns centred on perception that Western Canada could not receive fair treatment while the interests of Quebec and Ontario dominated Canadian politics. The party gained popularity in Alberta when western alienation was at its height following the federal Liberal government announcement of the National Energy Program in October 1980. This policy aimed to ensure low energy costs for Canadian industry and consumers, a policy that would not benefit Alberta, Canada's major producer of oil and gas. 1, record 61, English, - Western%20Canada%20Concept

The Statistics Canada Survey is a triennial survey that focuses on small businesses, given their importance to the Canadian economy and the challenges they face in complying with information obligations stemming from government regulations. The survey has two primary objectives. The government seeks to : improve understanding of how small businesses comply with information obligations stemming from government regulations and the cost of compliance; and establish a baseline measure of the compliance costs imposed on small businesses against which government can benchmark its progress in lessening the burden. 1, record 62, English, - Survey%20of%20Regulatory%20Compliance%20Costs

1, record 63, French, - Initiative%20d%27all%C3%A9gement%20du%20fardeau%20de%20la%20paperasserie

Producers receive an initial payment when they deliver grain to a primary elevator. The level of this initial payment is set by the Canadian Government and is a government-guaranteed price to the producer. The initial payment for each pool account is usually set at what is regarded as a "safe" level and varies from year-to-year according to market conditions.... The net value of grain in each pool account is determined after all grain has been sold and all costs involved in marketing have been deducted. These costs include interest, insurance, storage, terminal elevators handling charges, and the Board's own operating costs. They do not include rail freight costs from primary elevators to terminals or primary elevator handling charges.
