The first Representative Assembly of the Colony of Newfoundland was elected in 1833 and named the House of Assembly. This name continued to be used for the elected Chamber when the Colony was granted Responsible Government in 1855. In February, 1934 the Constitution of the Dominion of Newfoundland was suspended. At the time of suspension there were two Houses of Parliament namely : the Legislative Counsel, the Upper House and the House of Assembly, the Lower elected House. When Newfoundland joined Canada in 1949, the Terms of Union as set forth in the British North American Act of 1949(now cited the Newfoundland Act) provided that the Constitution of the Legislature of Newfoundland as it existed immediately prior to February of 1934 would continue as the Constitution and the Legislature of the Province from the date of union. Although the Legislative Counsel was not continued at the time of Confederation, the Lower House or the House of Assembly became the elected Parliament of the Province and the name House Assembly continued to be used after 1949 in the same manner as it was originally used in 1833. Therefore, the Parliament of Newfoundland and Labrador is referred to as the House of Assembly and not the Legislative Assembly of the Province. 2, record 3, English, - House%20of%20Assembly

ATB is not a chartered bank, and unlike other banks operating in Canada, ATB is regulated entirely by the Government of Alberta, under the authority of the Alberta Treasury Branches Act, Chapter A-37. 9, 1997, and Treasury Branches Regulation 187/97. ATB was created by the first Social Credit ministry under William Aberhart in 1938, after earlier attempts to place Alberta's banks under the provincial government's control were thwarted by the federal government. The first Alberta Treasury Board was opened in Rocky Mountain House on September 29 of that year. In June 1995, the House passed a motion to establish a Special Joint Committee of the House and Senate to develop a Code of Conduct. The following month, the Senate passed a similar motion. More than 19 months later, the Committee presented to Parliament its proposed Code of Official Conduct. The Committee emphasized the following as important goals for the Code : the maintenance of public trust and confidence in Parliament, and the provision of guidance for Parliamentarians in how to reconcile their private interests with their public duties. Specific rules were proposed for Parliamentarians which would have prohibited them from furthering their own private interests or those of their families, and from using insider information; the rules would also have regulated the receipt of gifts and personal benefits, sponsored travel and contracting with the government. 1, record 75, English, - Special%20Joint%20Committee%20of%20the%20House%20and%20Senate

As part of its 3R-V Program(Reduce at source, Reuse, Recycle, Valorize [sic :"reclamation" is the good equivalent for the French term "valorisation"]), Public Works and Government Services Canada is giving federal material managers the opportunity to acquire or dispose of items in good working condition online, in order to give the items a second useful life. The On-Line Reuse Centre(OLRC) puts into practice the second of the 3 Rs, namely, reuse. Foreseen as a pilot project for 2007-2008, the OLRC complements the network of reuse centres that are already up and running in some federal buildings. Since most facilities do not have the space or resources needed to house a reuse centre, the OLRC is an attractive alternative to get the ball rolling. The OLRC simply consists of a Web site devoted to classified ads where users can acquire or dispose of items purchased by and for the Government of Canada. 2, record 76, English, - reduce%20at%20source%2C%20reuse%2C%20recycle%2C%20reclaim

Nova House is a safe refuge for women and children traumatized by violence. Since opening in 1981, Nova House has housed more than 5000 women and children, in several different houses. In 2003, with support from all three levels of government, community groups, businesses and many individual donors, CHIMO built and fully equipped a beautiful new purpose-built permanent facility for Nova House. CHIMO's Nova House is that place of refuge in Richmond. 1, record 80, English, - Nova%20Transition%20House
