In 1882, the Ontario government established the Bureau of Industry under the Department of Agriculture. In 1900, a Bureau of Labour came into being, and labour affairs were transferred from the Department of Agriculture to Public Works. The bureau was replaced in 1916 by Trades and labour Branch, still under Public Works. In April 1919, Bill 169 brought all labour matters under the new Department of Labour. The International Business Opportunities Centre(IBOC) provides a matching service-connecting foreign buyers with Canadian companies. The Centre works in partnership with Canada's trade officers who are located around the world in Canada's embassies and consulates. When one of Canada's trade officers identifies a business opportunity, they turn to the International Business Opportunities Centre for help. The team of specialists at the Centre immediately goes to work to search out and contact potential Canadian exporters. IBOC is the export opportunities sourcing centre for Team Canada Inc, a partnership of government departments and agencies working together to provide trade services to Canadian exporters. The Centre is managed jointly by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Industry Canada. Investment Partnerships Canada was established in 1996 as part of the federal investment strategy designed to attract Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) to Canada, particularly from Multinational Enterprises(MNEs). Investment Partnerships Canada(IPC) works to coordinate the federal government's investment strategy, also working closely with the provinces, territories and major municipalities.
