A floating exchange rate system in which some government intervention still takes place. A government may announce that it will let its currency float, that is, it will let the currency's value be determined by the forces of supply and demand in the market. However, the government may secretly allow its central bank to intervene in the exchange market to avoid too much appreciation of the currency(hurts exports) or too much depreciation(increases inflation). 5, record 4, English, - dirty%20float

The ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation has a rich and interesting history. It began in 1935, when the mandate of the ministère des Affaires municipales was broadened to include industry and trade, two sectors of increasing importance to the government. In 1943, the ministère de l'Industrie et du Commerce was founded. Over the years, other mandates were grafted onto its mission : technology in 1988, science in 1994, and external trade in 1996. In 1998, the science and technology mandates were entrusted to the ministère de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie, which, in its early days, was charged with devising a scientific policy to bring about a new convergence between universities, industry and government. In 1998, the ministère des Régions was created as a successor to the Secrétariat au développement des régions in order to implement the new policy to support local and regional development, with a view to promoting and assisting the development of the regions and ensuring consistent government action. On April 29, 2003, the Premier announced the creation of the ministère du Développement économique et régional(MDER) out of these four entities. The purpose of the merger was to improve intervention targeting regional businesses and stakeholders by simplifying it and making it more coherent and efficient. In April 2004, "Recherche" was added to the MDER's name. In February 2005, the MDERR was divided into three departments : the ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation; the ministère du Tourisme; and the ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions. 1, record 18, English, - minist%C3%A8re%20du%20D%C3%A9veloppement%20%C3%A9conomique%2C%20de%20l%27Innovation%20et%20de%20l%27Exportation

1, record 18, French, - minist%C3%A8re%20du%20D%C3%A9veloppement%20%C3%A9conomique%2C%20de%20l%27Innovation%20et%20de%20l%27Exportation

In New Brunswick and in British Columbia the federal government is funding the Self-Sufficiency Project, a controlled experiment designed to determine the effectiveness of an earnings supplement for single-parent social assistance recipients who take jobs and agree to leave social assistance. The intervention being tested is a limited temporary supplementation of participants’ earned incomes for a three year period in order to support the transition from welfare to work. This project is being managed by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation. The project started in the fall of 1992 and is expected to span an eight-year period consisting of five years of operations with three years of follow-up research. 2, record 26, English, - The%20Self%2DSufficiency%20Project

2, record 26, French, - Projet%20d%27autosuffisance

Canadian grain policy is in a period of transition. Government intervention in support of the sector is declining and being done in a more market neutral fashion. As a result, government programs are having a progressively smaller influence on production and marketing decisions. Major reforms are in progress in four areas.--Grain Transportation--Canadian Wheat Board Pooling--Transition Programs--Grain Safety Nets. 1, record 27, English, - Reform%20of%20Canadian%20Grain%20Policy

1, record 27, French, - R%C3%A9forme%20de%20la%20politique%20canadienne%20des%20grains

An even broader definition of intervention would include all the exchange market transactions carried out by other entities(banks, public or private corporations) which may be considered to be directed by the government or the central bank. This is the case when borrowing that would not otherwise have been undertaken in foreign currency takes place and the proceeds are converted in the market. However, this criterion may raise very difficult questions of intent when one tries to determine which foreign currency borrowings should count as intervention. 1, record 28, English, - foreign%20currency%20borrowing

1, record 28, French, - emprunt%20en%20devises
