Canadian activity in remote sensing is becoming more and more international. This can be explained by the internationalization of environmental problems, funding sources and information flow. It is expressed through the increase of exchanges and cooperative programs in many directions : North-North, North-South and triangular. How can remote sensing activities work in this context? How is it possible to ensure quality and sustainability of the learning process in an extremely mobile context of international relations and governmental priorities? How can we set up cooperative projects based on mutual respect rather than on a dependence relationhsip? How is it possible to set up a training program in an international context?. The workshop will try to provide some answers to these questions by building on several international experiences and on learning from past errors. L'atelier cherchera à répondre à ces questions en s'appuyant sur diverses expériences internationales et en tirant les leçons de certains échecs. Symposium international «La géomatique à l'ère de RADARSAT» qui eut lieu à Ottawa en 1997.
