Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) provide accurate position, velocity and time information that is readily accessible at ground level to anyone with a receiver.

The most commonly known and used satellite navigation system is GPS [American]-but other systems are also available : GLONASS(the Russian system) and EGNOS(the European wide area augmentation system). The European Union and the European Space Agency are now investing in a European satellite navigation system called Galileo.

Ionospheric scintillation is a rapid change in the amplitude and phase of a radio signal as it passes through small-scale plasma density irregularities in the ionosphere. These scintillations not only can reduce the accuracy of GPS/[Satellite-Based Augmentation System] SBAS receiver pseudorange and carrier phase measurements but can result in a complete loss of lock on a satellite.

Regional Area Augmentation System-RAAS. Normally, RAAS configurations are based on a fast communication network between the reference stations and the master control station. The master station communicates the corrections to the users. As the Eurofix user will generally receive two or more Loran-C stations such a communication network is now entirely superfluous. It is the Eurofix user who computes the RAAS correction data for the GPS receiver.
