Wheat seed often contains considerable plant material trash, and it is often pre-cleaned. A typical pre-cleaner is similar to an air-screen cleaner, except that it has only one air channel to remove light material, one top scalping screen to remove large particles and one bottom grading screen to remove small particles.

A simple pre-cleaner used in rice mills usually contains an oscillating double screen bed with an aspirator. The first screen is a scalper that lets through the grain but retains straw. The second screen retains the grains but lets through broken grains and small stones or weed seeds. The air aspirator sucks out dust and the light empty grains. Air dampers are provided and have to be adjusted to prevent the good grain from being sucked out.

A revolving cylindrical screen used in grading coarsely crushed ore. The material to be screened is delivered inside the trommel at one end. The fine material drops through the holes; the coarse is delivered at the other end.

Trommels are chiefly used as sizers in gravel plants and stone-breaking work, and on tin and gold dredges where they remove boulders and clay from the gravels brought up by the buckets. ... Apart from the uses mentioned above, the vibrating screen has replaced the trommel for most ore-dressing purposes.

Pattern data is generated and converted to digital form by using one of Gerber Camsco's pattern grading and marker making systems. These microprocessor-based systems improve accuracy and throughput over conventional marker making techniques. Pattern pieces are digitized, stored and nested to form the most space-efficient marker possible. Grading modifications and style changes can be incorporated effortlessly. The nesting is performed at a terminal that displays the entire marker on the screen.
