Very directly related to transferring is CSC’s [Correctional Service of Canada] "cascading" policy. Cascading, begun in 1979, is the practice of transferring inmates to the lowest security level possible insofar as is practical, respecting the Service’s mandate to protect the public. The cascading practice is also consistent with the opportunities model. An inmate’s reward for good behaviour is a transfer to a lower level of security ... Reverse cascading can also occur and is consistent with the punishment/reward system. 3, record 1, English, - cascading

Gradual Retirement(pre-retirement). Increasingly, collective agreements contain pre-retirement or gradual retirement programs. These programs allow older workers to gradually decrease their workload, normally through a reduction in their hours of work over a period of time, before retiring and collecting their pensions. The purpose of these programs is twofold :(1) to facilitate the transition from full-time employment to retirement; and(2) to provide younger workers with the opportunity to secure full-time employment. The requirements and conditions of these programs, as well as their impact on benefits, vary from one agreement to the next. The period of time proceeding retirement within which an employee can reduce his or her workload also varies. This period may range from one to five years. 2, record 5, English, - gradual%20retirement

2, record 5, French, - retraite%20graduelle

Phased retirement is broadly defined as any program allowing for gradual decreases in working time and workload instead of an abrupt move from full-time employment to retirement. Phased retirement may take one of two forms : a pre-retirement gradual reduction in hours(or days) of work or post-retirement part-time work for pensioners who wish to remain employed. 2, record 6, English, - phased%20retirement

2, record 6, French, - retraite%20%C3%A9chelonn%C3%A9e

The stands of juvenile trees don’t need to be spaced the same distance that mature trees require, because there is an optimum spacing which encourages natural pruning of lower branches. Such natural pruning is a desirable energy saver for the land owner. Also, conifers have a growth habit built in, called geotrophism, which is what makes a tree grow vertically rather than just meandering crookedly up to its finished height. Using the force of geotrophism to advantage, we may just crowd our trees just enough to keep them reaching higher than a specimen tree with its bushy branching and its severly bushy habit. All this doesn’t give you a formula to work with though, so try this approach. You should thin most stands of juvenile age to intermediate age trees to about eight feet apart. Later, as the trees mature, they could be spaced even farther to as much as twelve feet apart. 2, record 10, English, - natural%20pruning

The objective of this study was to describe the different morphological gradients being used as the basis for the development of the shape of the stem system in young forest-grown 7-year-old beeches... Three simple morphogenetic gradients explain the developmental dynamics of their overall stem system... The third one is characterized by a gradual reduction in annual growth rate as well as of the branching angle of the lowest axes of the tree, indicating their decline and their imminent elimination by natural pruning. 3, record 10, English, - natural%20pruning
