In the case of allogeneic transplants, identifying a potential donor who can give their stem cells to another person involves analyzing the human leukocyte antigens(HLA), which are proteins found on the surface of the blood and in tissue cells. The HLA must be as closely matched as possible so that the transplant recipient's body can "accept" the new stem cells into their bone marrow. Just as important, matching at HLA will decrease the chance of the new marrow reacting against the patient, a reaction called graft versus host disease. 4, record 5, English, - human%20leukocyte%20antigen

Physicians at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center(UPMC) are evaluating the use of LBS-Neurons in the world's first clinical human neuron transplant into a patient's brain. This is the first effort to treat stroke patients with an intracerebral graft of cells. These neurons are provided by Layton Science, Inc., located in Atherton, Cal. Specifically, the Pitt research team expects the LBS-neurons to improve the function of neurons damaged after a stroke. Based on previous studies with an animal model of stroke, researchers think that grafted LBS-Neurons will either enhance the function of host neurons that survive a stroke but are impaired, or replace host neurons that have been destroyed by a stroke. 1, record 6, English, - intracerebral%20graft

[Dermatomes] may be a manually operated device(e. g., a handheld mechanical frame and cutting blade) or, more frequently, a powered(e. g., electrical, pneumatic) device with a cutting blade. Powered(e. g., Castroviejo, Reese, Padgett-Hood, Brown, Davol-Simon, Zimmer) dermatomes typically use a rapidly oscillating blade that is manually advanced over the skin. Dermatomes are used mainly to obtain skin grafts from donor sites, but they are sometimes used in other procedures(e. g., to remove tattoos). Dedicated instruments are available to expand the skin graft(i. e., expanded mesh dermatomes), increasing the area of damaged skin that can be covered with a given graft. 5, record 37, English, - dermatome

The acellular dermal graft is processed from human donor skin obtained from approved tissue banks. In processing, the epidermis is removed, and the remaining dermal layer is washed in detergent solutions to remove cellular components. After the tissue has been decellularized, the acellular collagen matrix is then cryoprotected and rapidly freeze-dried by a patented process to preserve biochemical and structural integrity. This packaged acellular dermis can be stored under refrigeration for at least 2 years. Rehydration of the freeze-dried dermis for a minimum of 10 minutes in physiologic saline using a normal sterile procedure yields a pliable collagen template for cell repopulation. 5, record 43, English, - acellular%20dermal%20graft

In 1955, Barnes and Loutit first described graft versus host disease(GVHD) in mice. Simonsen introduced the term graft-versus-host reaction in 1958 to describe the direction of the immunological damage caused by introduction of immunologically competent cells into an immunocompromised host. In 1966, Billingham proposed 3 conditions required for the development of GVHD, as follows :(1) the graft must contain immunologically competent cells,(2) the host must possess important transplant alloantigens that are lacking in the donor graft so that the host appears foreign to the graft, and(3) the host itself must be incapable of mounting an effective immunological reaction against the graft. According to the accepted definition, the immunologic assault itself and its consequences are referred to as GVHD. 3, record 53, English, - graft%20versus%20host%20disease

A femoral-popliteal bypass graft is the favoured treatment for occlusive disease of the superficial femoral artery. Usually, the patient's own long saphenous vein is used for the graft, a technique known as autogenous bypass grafting. Conventionally, the vein is dissected out from the groin to the knee, and its tributaries ligated. The vein is then reversed, so that the valves do not obstruct the blood flow, and joined to the common femoral artery above and the popliteal below. 3, record 59, English, - femoropopliteal%20bypass%20graft

There are two major limitations for the transferred monolayer systems :(1) Thermodynamic instability renders them suffering from lack of long-term durability;(2) the transferring methods require the supporting substrates to be planar, which will not provide large enough surface area for many important applications, such as enzymatic catalysis. Thus, direct graft of phospholipids to solid substrate to form a highly packed monolayer holds great promise in biomembrane mimetic applications. A method, first reported by Pidgeon and Venkataram to bond covalently phospholipids on a silica gel surface for chromatography applications, has greatly inspired our interest in further developing a stable and robust self-assembled lipid monolayer on solid surfaces to mimic the functionality of biomembranes, especially the surface activation of membrane-bound enzymes by the lipid self-assembled monolayers. 2, record 61, English, - lipid%20monolayer%20on%20silica%20gel

Blood irradiator BI-2000. Applications : Irradiation of blood & blood products by gamma rays is a proven and safe method to inhibit T-Lymphocyte proliferation and eliminate the risk of post transfusion graft versus host disease(T-GVHD). Gamma irradiation of cellular blood components is the best current technology to reduce the risk of T-GVHD to the recipients as confirmed by research and therefore being widely practiced world over in hospitals and blood banks as a life saving approach to this problem. Blood is usually irradiated in standard blood bags in dedicated blood irradiators using cobalt-60 or caesium-137 radioactive source. The usual recommended radiation doses are 25 Gy to 35 Gy(1 Gy=100 rad) for this purposes. 2, record 64, English, - blood%20irradiator

What clinicians loosely refer to as a "bone graft" for reconstruction of the atrophic maxilla really amounts to a marrow transplant. It is aimed at obtaining osteocompetent cells, which are essentially the endosteal osteoblasts from the surface of cancellous bone trabeculae and the cancellous marrow stem-cell population from bone donor sites such as the ilium and tibial plateau. The graft itself contains these osteocompetent cells and islands of mineralized cancellous bone, fibrin from blood clotting, and platelets within the clot. 1, record 68, English, - osteocomptent%20cell

At the NIH, Ildstad and her mentor, David Sachs, tried to induce the same kind of "chimeric" organ tolerance in adult mice. They used a mixture of marrow from the donor and the recipient. To prevent graft vs. host, they filtered mature T cells out. Their hope was that immature immune cells in the mixed bone marrow would grow inside the mouse into a functioning immune system. Unplasticized PVC presents some processing difficulties due to its high melt viscosity; in addition, the finished product is too brittle for some applications. To overcome these problems and to produce toughening, certain polymeric additives are usually added to the PVC. These materials, known as impact modifiers, are generally semicompatible and often somewhat rubbery in nature. Among the most important impact modifiers in use today are butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers(nitrile rubber), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) graft terpolymers, methacrylate-butadiene-styrene(MBS) terpolymers, chlorinated polyethylene, and some polyacrylates. 4, record 94, English, - impact%20modifier

Hyperacute/acute/chronic rejection describe the speed of rejection in organs such as the kidney. Hyperacute reactions occur within minutes of implantation and are caused by preformed recipient antibody to the graft. Acute rejection occurs within two weeks of grafting, due to prior sensitization of the recipient to histocompatibility antigens. Chronic rejection occurs later due to the development of sensitivity to graft antigens. This sometimes occurs after the cessation of immuno-suppression necessitated by infection. 1, record 97, English, - hyperacute%20rejection

1, record 98, French, - enfoncement%20articulaire%20traumatique
