As the corn plant matures, the grain content increases, but the digestibility of the starch declines. Often, the energy content of mature silages is diminished and the available energy is lower than silage harvested at one-half milk line, even though the fiber content is lower in the more mature silage. More mature silages also will tend to have lower sugar contents and lower fiber digestibility than those harvested near one-half milk line. 2, record 6, English, - mature%20silage

Mexico has been cultivating indigenous corn, a New World grain, for over 5500 years. As a result, Oaxaca contains the greatest diversity of genetic varieties of corn in the world. Cleaned corn grain is washed thoroughly and then steeped for 36 to 40 hours in approximately twice its volume of water containing 0. 2% SO2 at a temperature of 46-50 [degrees] C. As the steep water is drawn from the corn it contains between 6 and 9 lbs of solids per 100 lbs of water. The corn should be soft to the touch, but must not be slimy or smeary-in the latter case it was steeped either too hot or too long. The steep liquor is then evaporated [under 25 mm Hg pressure] in a "Swenson" evaporator to what is called heavy steep liquor with a gravity of 16 to 20 [degrees] Bé and containing 50-60% of solids. In this form it is sold to manufacturer of antibiotics who may have their own specifications as to age, gravity and SO2 content. 4, record 19, English, - corn%20steep%20liquor

1, record 19, French, - eau%20de%20mac%C3%A9ration%20du%20ma%C3%AFs

Generally, ground, rolled, heated, steam fladed or pelletized grain increases starch digestibilities and propionic acid production in the rumen. Steam flaked corn or sorghum compared to steam rolled corn or dry rolled corn or sorghum consistently improves milk production and milk protein yield.

The general practice in Canada is to use only one cleaning passage for the blend. The first cleaning machine is a milling separator, similar to the receiving separator used in the elevator, but more precise in its ability to separate impurities that are larger and smaller than wheat. The top sieve has large perforations about six millimetres in diameter and the bottom sieve has holes two millimetres in diameter. As the grain passes through the machine, large impurities such as corn, soybeans and unthreshed wheat are removed by the top screen, while the finer bottom sieve allows small impurities such as mustard seed, buckwheat and sand to pass through for separate collection. The partially cleaned wheat tails over the finer sieve. As it falls off the end of the sieve, it is aspirated by air currents that remove chaff and dust to a separate outlet. 1, record 38, English, - milling%20separator

1, record 38, French, - s%C3%A9parateur%20de%20mouture

Heavy grain or light grain : charters rates are normally set at so much per tonne of grain transported. Obviously a ship of a given volume can be loaded with more tonnes of high-density "heavy" grains(wheat, corn, rye or soybeans) than with "low-density "light" grains(barley, oats, flaxseed or canola). Thus the type of grain hauled could determine the shipowners’ income for the charter. Charter terms state whether "heavy" grains or "light" grains are to be carried and set a rate for each. These provide premiums, which fluctuate according to destination, for carrying "light" grains.(Although soybeans are considered a "heavy" grain, they are usually specified). Sequential Extraction Processing(SEP). Iowa State University, in conjunction with the USDA, had developed the SEP process as an alternative to the wet milling of corn and small cereal grains. Using countercurrent extraction with ethanol, high value proteins and other coproducts can be extracted from the grain prior to fermentation. 2, record 48, French, - fourbure%20suite%20%C3%A0%20une%20ingestion%20excessive%20de%20grain
