After grain was placed in the bin, a standard compartmentalized grain probe was used to obtain grain samples along the diameter of the bin at 30-cm intervals, starting at a point 15 cm from the bin wall. The grain probe was 3 m long, with compartments at 14-cm intervals. Samples from each two adjacent compartments in the probe were combined and screened with appropriate sieves to determine the fine material content. The percentages of fine material content in each sample established the distribution of fine material in the bin. 2, record 1, English, - compartmentalized%20grain%20probe

Grain is often used in reference to the relative sizes and distributions of cells, as in fine grain and coarse grain... Texture is another word used to describe a macroscopic summary of the relative sizes of cells in wood. Fine-textured woods have uniform structure with typically small cells. Tape or another sticky substance may be applied to the handle to permit a better grip, but should not be higher than 18 inches [10 to 15 inches for a softball bat] up the handle. 4, record 7, English, - bat

Bat nicknames have survived long usage, some of the more enduring being "lumber," "wood," "wand," "willow," "war club," "stick," "shillelagh." A bat is still called the "hickory" because it used to be made of the hardwood, although white ash has long since proved more satisfactory. The [term] "white tongue" as a synonym dates to the 1880s when A.G. Spalding advertised for 100,000 wagon tongues to be turned into bats. 5, record 7, English, - bat

The general practice in Canada is to use only one cleaning passage for the blend. The first cleaning machine is a milling separator, similar to the receiving separator used in the elevator, but more precise in its ability to separate impurities that are larger and smaller than wheat. The top sieve has large perforations about six millimetres in diameter and the bottom sieve has holes two millimetres in diameter. As the grain passes through the machine, large impurities such as corn, soybeans and unthreshed wheat are removed by the top screen, while the finer bottom sieve allows small impurities such as mustard seed, buckwheat and sand to pass through for separate collection. The partially cleaned wheat tails over the finer sieve. As it falls off the end of the sieve, it is aspirated by air currents that remove chaff and dust to a separate outlet. 1, record 13, English, - milling%20separator

1, record 13, French, - s%C3%A9parateur%20de%20mouture

Surface application is one of the approved methods for application of liquid fumigants. Surface application is effective for treating top infestations such as grain moths or secondary beetles in flat storages. Flat storages and annexes can be treated only by surface applications, applying the liquid fumigants under pressure. A power sprayer with a 12 ro 25 millimetre diameter hose and a fine spray nozzle is used to control surface infestations of moths. 1, record 14, English, - surface%20application

Even distribution of a fumigant is important, requiring that grain in flat storages be levelled prior to application. This does not apply in the case of moth infestation, since levelling will mix the moths with other uncontaminated grain. 1, record 14, English, - surface%20application

1, record 14, French, - fumigation%20en%20surface

The Binishell pneumatic-form construction technique for bulk grain is another interesting development in concrete storage. In this concept, reinforcing steel is laid out on the ground, concrete is poured on top of it, and the pneumatic form lifts the whole "pie" up from the centre to its final dome shape. After the concrete sets, the pneumatic form is removed. This type of dome can also be erected with vertical sidewalls to produce a conventional bulk storage bin, with a diameter as large as 30 metres. Research is currently under way aimed at using this system to achieve air tight concrete bulk grain tanks so that nitrogen gas and chemicals could be used to enhance grain keeping quality. 1, record 15, English, - Binishell%20pneumatic%2Dform%20construction%20technique

1, record 15, French, - proc%C3%A9d%C3%A9%20Binishell%2C%20%C3%A0%20coffrages%20pneumatiques

Retention criterion.... Criteria for granular filters can be found in many text book on soil mechanics.... In these criteria, which have been drawn up on the basis of laboratory tests, a defined grain size is often compared with a pore diameter of the filter. The behaviour of soil material, especially in the case of cohesive soils, is a far too complicated phenomenon to be predicted only from the grain-size distribution. Because of this there is little to be gained by enumerating a large number of sometimes contradictory criteria for both granular and synthetic filter materials. 3, record 17, English, - retention%20criterion
