GRAIN LINE [13 records]

Record 1 2021-10-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Animal Feed (Agric.)
CONT

As the corn plant matures, the grain content increases, but the digestibility of the starch declines. Often, the energy content of mature silages is diminished and the available energy is lower than silage harvested at one-half milk line, even though the fiber content is lower in the more mature silage. More mature silages also will tend to have lower sugar contents and lower fiber digestibility than those harvested near one-half milk line.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Alimentation des animaux (Agric.)
CONT

Subject field(s)

  • Intaglio Printing
DEF

An etching technique characterized by the control of tonal areas that produces an unlimited series of gradations from pale gray to velvety black and a pleasing granular effect.

CONT

The medium of aquatint is related to etching, but concerned with areas of tone rather than line. The plate is dusted with powdered asphalt(or resin) ;the coarseness of the grain is determined by the effects desired. The plate is then heated so that the asphalt particles adhere to the copper. The melted asphalt protects the copper when the plate is immersed in the acid bath; only the copper exposed between the asphalt deposits is bitten. The longer the biting, the darker the tonal areas will print. Areas not to be etched are protected("stopped out") with an asphalt varnish.

OBS

The aquatint is one of the intaglio techniques.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gravure d'art
  • Impression en creux (héliogravure)
DEF

To split slate along its grain, start with the chisel or bolster at one edge of the slab and move it along the line of the desired cut, tapping it in the same way as described above. At first you may have to go over the line of the cut more than once, but with practice you should be able to split it with two or three blows.

CONT

Pattern observed in convection at large aspect ratios; thick lines mark the place of sinking fluid; the texture is made of large grain with a slowly varying roll orientation bounded by smaller grains and lateral wall; notice the presence of line and point defects called grain boundaries and dislocations(after Pocheau and Croquette, 1984).

DEF

CONT

CONT

The bruter has to know what kind of glets or feather he is dealing with. The principal glets is the one that resembles the tear of cracked glass. The line is straight. This glets is very dangerous because at the slightest shock it can enlarge in the direction of the grain, or, worse, it might split the stone into two.

DEF

CONT

OBS

gletz : Mot flamand.

The track is used primarily for transporting chemicals, coal, paper, grain and milled grain and intermodal trailers and containers.

OBS

The Illinois Central is the only major rail carrier in the United States still operating essentially under its own name without interruption after nearly a century-and-a-half since its founding. In its long and colorful history, the IC achieved many "firsts" in the fields of commerce, transportation and western settlement.

Since 1911, when the variety OAC21 was licensed, six-rowed barleys have dominated malting barley production in Canada. Since 1929, most six-rowed varieties eligible for top grades of barley have been identified by a distinctive blue aleurone colour. With the exception of Gateway and Beacon, all licensed yellow-aleuroned six-rowed varieties have been inferior in malting quality and have been excluded from the Canada Western (C.W.) grades of barley.

CONT

Research Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, P. O. Box 3000, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada T1J 4B1. AC Harper is a six-row yellow aleurone, hulled, spring feed barley with smooth awns, suitable for the Canadian prairies. Ac Harper was developed from a cross between a scald resistant backcross line of Galt and BT364, which has high grain yield and strong straw. It has a combination of high yield potentiel, good resistance to lodging, short straw, and resistance to scald. AC Harper has improved kernel plumpness, protein content, and kernel colour compared to the feed check, Brier.

CONT

The tendency for slide and negative/print films to shift during long exposures is called "reciprocity failure". The different color layers and dyes of any film react to light at different rates, and film manufactures design their films so that the different dyes produce accurate overall colors during the most often used exposures, usually 1/30th of a second or faster.

CONT

Kodak T-Max 100 Pro is an extremely fine grain, high resolution film with slightly less red sensitivity than Plus-X. The film has little toe and lots of straight line in its characteristic curve. Shadow separation is excellent, but processing consistency is essential. Reciprocity departure characteristics are excellent, this film is therefore faster than a number of higher-rated films at exposure times of several seconds or more.

OBS

According to the reciprocity law, as long as the exposure (light intensity x time) remains constant the response of the emulsion is the same. Many photographic materials fail to follow this law at extremely long or short exposures; a proportionately greater increase in exposure may therefore be necessary to maintain the same negative density.
