GRAIN MARK [4 records]

Record 1 2018-02-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Properties of Paper
DEF

A finish on uncoated paper presenting a nonglossy, smooth effect.

OBS

It is traditionally produced by the use of special felts which mark the paper as it enters the driers with relatively round hills and valleys not definitely aligned with the grain direction. It is generally considered to be rougher than a machine finish and smoother than an antique finish.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Propriétés des papiers
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
  • Semiconductors (Electronics)
DEF

A boundary between grains in polycrystalline material [under the shape of] a discontinuity of the material structure having an effect on its fundamental properties.

CONT

Pattern observed in convection at large aspect ratios; thick lines mark the place of sinking fluid; the texture is made of large grain with a slowly varying roll orientation bounded by smaller grains and lateral wall; notice the presence of line and point defects called grain boundaries and dislocations(after Pocheau and Croquette, 1984).

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralogie
  • Semi-conducteurs (Électronique)
DEF
