Spot application is used to control local infestations in hot spots some distance below the grain surface. The extent of the infested area is determined by probing. The fumigant is then introduced by pouring it into pipes inserted into the infested area on a 1-metre grid. The method is seldom completely successful but is used as a holding measure.
