Yield components of crops. The yield of a grain crop plant can be divided into various components which together contributed to the yield. These components include : Heads, ears or pods per acre... Number of kernels or seeds per head, ear or pod... Weight per kernel or seed... Any crop production factor which decreases any one of these factors results in decreased yield.... Full yield potential is almost never achieved because environmental conditions may limit one or more of the yield components during the growing season. 2, record 1, English, - yield%20component

The basic concept behind a machinery co-op is that the co-op owns and controls the use of machinery and equipment. The individual assigns his land for production purposes to the co-operative. The co-op manages all field operations and co-ordinates labour inputs by its members. However, each member retains his farmer status and therefore is entitled to a permit book. He will deliver his share of the grain and from this income will pay his share of operating expenses and machinery financing. Each member is also responsible for his own land cost including taxes. 5, record 6, English, - farm%20machinery%20co%2Doperative

Because of the importance of standard samples, great care is taken in their preparation. Quantities of grain sufficient to prepare standard samples of each grade are obtained from primary elevators and from rail cars unloading at terminal elevators. About 50 tonnes are collected and sent annually to the Commission's Inspection Division. The samples are representative of the major grading factors peculiar to that crop and of a cross-section of all production areas. Many of the newer grains developed in Canada came forward in response to efforts by the grain industry to diversify small grains production in the early 1970s. Generally, ground, rolled, heated, steam fladed or pelletized grain increases starch digestibilities and propionic acid production in the rumen. Steam flaked corn or sorghum compared to steam rolled corn or dry rolled corn or sorghum consistently improves milk production and milk protein yield. In six comparisons, steam flaked corn increased milk protein percentage and yield and decreased milk fat percentage compared to steam rolled corn.

Thermophilic or heat tolerant fungi can push grains mass temperatures beyond the range of insect survival. Medical evidence shows that mouldy grain or hay is the cause of farmers lung disease. Under favourable temperature and moisture conditions, some fungi produce mycotoxins. These toxins cause different animal diseases including abortions, reduced fertility and general ill-health. They also make grain unfit for human consumption. The production of mycotoxins is more common in warmer humid climates than in areas with a dry climate. 1, record 36, English, - thermophilic%20fungi

1, record 36, French, - myc%C3%A8te%20thermophile

The quota system achieves these objectives by controlling the quantities and kinds of grain producers may deliver at any particular time. Begun strictly as a means of sharing market opportunities during World War II when grain production exceeded available markets, the present system ties a farmer's delivery opportunities to his farm size or what is known as his quota base. The Saskatchewan Canola Growers’ Association was formed in 1968 by rapeseed growers to promote research, production and marketing of rapeseed(now known for the most part as canola). It is strictly a producer organization and voting membership is available only to bona fide canola or rapeseed growers in Saskatchewan. It is a non-commercial and non-political organization. Their main purpose is to increase the profits from growing canola. They work closely with grain companies, crushers, the Canola Council of Canada and government agencies toward the improvement of grading, handling and marketing of canola. The Association encourages and sponsors research by the provincial departments of agriculture and universities, and sponsors courses for producers to increase their knowledge of Canada's grain handling and marketing systems. 1, record 50, French, - R%C3%A9forme%20de%20la%20politique%20canadienne%20des%20grains
