DEF

A ratio used in futures markets to express the profit margin associated with the feeding and selling of animals.

Subject field(s)
  • Construction Materials
  • Construction Finishing
  • Paints and Varnishes (Industries)
CONT

Moisture can influence the behavior of the wood substrate so that deterioration of the paint film is increased. Springwood and summerwood are of different densities and porosities, and moisture enters springwood more readily and to a greater extent than it enters summerwood. This difference gives rise to a differential swelling, called "grain raising" or "grain swelling", that puts undue localized mechanical strains on coatings that are applied to the wood.

Record 4 1986-02-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
CONT

Dry land salinization occurs following a shift from native vegetation to annual grain crops which use less water. More water percolates into the soils raising the water table. The higher water table results in more areas where the water comes to the surface and evaporates leaving the salts behind.
