Foods with a parasitic bacterium, Bdellovibrio Bacteriovorus. The addition of B. bacteriovorus, an obligate parasite of gram-negative bacteria, to meats and meat products reduces the gram-negative population, lengthens the shelf-life, and reduces the risks of food-borne illness. The organism is intended to be applied to the surface of the food, onto food contact surfaces by spraying or dipping, or as part of a sanitizing rinse. It may also be used on uncooked seafoods and whole eggs. High parasitic activity occurs under aerobic conditions, near neutral pH, and at temperatures [greater or equal] to 20°C. The production of ribosomally synthesized peptide antibiotics can be considered a successful strategy for mediating bacterial antagonistic relationships, as judged by its widespread occurrence among bacteria. These antibiotics are produced by gram-positive bacteria as well as by gram-negative bacteria and appear to share some features, such as their relatively small size and their mode of secretion into the extracellular medium, which is dependent on dedicated export mechanisms. Many of these antibiotics are synthesized as peptide precursors which are subsequently modified by other proteins whose determinants are linked to the antibiotic structural gene. Examples of modified peptide antibiotics are the lantibiotics and most microcins. 1, record 25, English, - ribosomally%20synthesized%20peptide

Septic shock leads to severe damage to and failure of multiple organ systems(multiple organ failure=MOF). Of these myriad effects, those influencing cardiovascular function and blood clotting are of most consequence. As an understanding of septic shock has begun to emerge, so to have new attempts at intervention. These attempts include those directed at eliminating or neutralizing the responsible microorganisms invading normally sterile host tissues or, in the case of gram-negative infection, the endotoxin or liposaccharide(LPS). LPS antagonists and anti-endotoxin antisera have been studied with mixed results; LPS-receptor blocking(CD14) seems more promissing. 2, record 65, English, - liposaccharide

In brewing, bacterial spoilage can occur at almost any stage in the process. If the temperature of the mash tun wort is allowed for any reason to fall below 50 [degrees Celsius], the thermophilic lactic acid bacteria(...) can cause rapid spoilage. If hopped wort is held for any length of time before pitching, gram-negative bacteria such as coliform organisms, acetic acid bacteria and Obesumbacterium proteus can develop with the production of unpleasant flavours. 1, record 82, English, - bacterial%20spoilage
