The New Rural Economy Project Phase 2(NRE2) is a research and education program studying rural Canada since 1998. It is a collaborative undertaking bringing together rural people, researchers, policy-analysts, the business community, and government agencies at all levels to identify and address vital rural issues. It is conducted at the national level with historical and statistical data analysis, and at the local level with case studies involving community and household surveys. The NRE's mandate has been extended through 2006 with the help of a major grant from the INITIATIVE ON THE NEW ECONOMY Program(INE) of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. 1, record 8, English, - New%20Rural%20Economy

1, record 8, French, - Nouvelle%20%C3%A9conomie%20rurale

Land grant acts passed in North Carolina created a booming market in Tennessee land before actual settlers had ever arrived. Land speculation was based upon cheaply amassing large amounts of western land, or claims to it, in hopes that increased immigration would raise the price of these lands.
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 2 CONT
6, record 9, French, - sp%C3%A9culation%20fonci%C3%A8re

Beginning in 1993, l'École des hautes études commerciales in Montréal, via the Programme des centres d’excellence de la langue française, consulted with over 300 arts, cultural and communication enterprises and associations, and federal grant and contribution managers, on the importance of management/internal control and performance evaluation. Contrary to public perception, enterprises in the field of arts and culture consider management controls to be highly important and see them as contributing directly to the profitability of their business. The final project report recommended improvements to the management of federal grant and contribution programs, and to the structure, management systems, internal controls and performance evaluations of cultural enterprises.
