The Medical Council of Canada was the dream of Sir Thomas Roddick, who pursued his vision of a national medical licensing standard within Canada, through legislation, for over 18 years. His persistence in passing a bill through Parliament known as the Canada Medical Act, followed by amendments that gave the provinces the power to grant licenses, resulted in the formation of the Medical Council of Canada in 1912. Since then, the Medical Council has been responsible for promoting a uniform standard of qualifiation to practice medicine for all physicians across Canada. The qualifitcation, known as the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada(LMCC), remains acceptable to provincial medical regulatory authorities. This ensures portability across the nation, while continuing to guarantee that each province and territory maintains the right to grant the license to practice medicine.

OBS
