Record 2 2008-05-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Range Measurements (Telecommunications)
DEF

An active sensor used for the measurement of the backscattered field of a laser illuminated surface.

CONT

The facility is a class 10, 000 cleanroom and contains a unique, state-of-the-art, out-of-plane optical scatterometer. This scatterometer is capable of measuring the bi-directional scatter distribution function(BSDF) of transmissive or reflective, specular or diffuse optical elements and surfaces in addition to granular, powdered, or liquid samples.

  • Mesures à distance (Télécommunications)
DEF

Record 4 1990-10-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tolerances and Modular Co-ordination (Construction)
  • Civil Engineering
  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
CONT

Retention criterion.... Criteria for granular filters can be found in many text book on soil mechanics.... In these criteria, which have been drawn up on the basis of laboratory tests, a defined grain size is often compared with a pore diameter of the filter. The behaviour of soil material, especially in the case of cohesive soils, is a far too complicated phenomenon to be predicted only from the grain-size distribution. Because of this there is little to be gained by enumerating a large number of sometimes contradictory criteria for both granular and synthetic filter materials.

CONT

Since there are three mechanisms through which a geotextile performs the filtration function, there should be three criteria for the relevant geotextile properties: 1. Criterion for minimum permeability ("permeability criterion") ... 2. Criterion for maximum opening size ("retention criterion") ... 3. Criterion for minimum percent open area (wovens) or minimum porosity (nonwovens) ("nonclogging criterion") ....

OBS

Criterion: plural: criteria, criterions.

Domaine(s)
  • Calcul, tolérances et modulation (Construction)
  • Génie civil
  • Mécanique des sols
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Roads
  • Airport Runways and Areas
CONT

The granular equivalency factor of a material is the depth of granular base in centimetres considered equivalent to one centimetre of the material on the basis of load distribution characteristics.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Voies de circulation
  • Pistes et aires d'aéroport
CONT

Record 6 1987-07-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Road Construction
  • Airport Runways and Areas
CONT

Equivalent granular thickness is a term applied to flexible pavement structures, and is the basis for comparing pavements constructed with different thicknesses of materials having different load distribution characteristics. The equivalent granular thickness is computed through the use of the granular equivalency factors for pavement construction materials....

French

Domaine(s)
  • Construction des voies de circulation
  • Pistes et aires d'aéroport
CONT
