GRANULAR MEDIA FILTER [2 records]

Record 1 2017-01-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
  • Equipment and Tools (Water Supply)
  • Water Pollution
CONT

Mixed media filters, called "high rate filters", can be used at up to 6-8 gpm [feet to the minus 2 power] and achieve much deeper penetration into the bed as the particles in the surface layer are much larger.

OBS

Mixed-media : a deep-bed filtration system utilizing two or more dissimilar granular materials, e. g., anthracite, sand and garnet, blended by size and density to produce a composite filter media graded hydraulically after backwash from coarse to fine in the direction of flow.

  • Équipement et outillage (Alimentation en eau)
  • Pollution de l'eau
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sewers and Drainage
  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
CONT

A geotextile can be applied in a drainage function because of its ability to filter selectively and to keep two media, grains and water, apart.... In the drainage process there is a division of functions within the construction into : the water-discharge element, and the surrounding element which is permeable and separates the water-discharge element from the surrounding granular material.

CONT

Hydraulic properties of geotextiles are those that relate directly to filtration and drainage functions of geotextiles. Hydraulic properties fall into two general categories: 1-Filtration ... 2-Drainage: pertaining to a geotextiles’s ability to transport water within its plane when used as the drain replacing aggregate or sand as the water conductor.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Égouts et drainage
  • Mécanique des sols
CONT
