L'éclat est adamantin. C'est un minéral de la zone d'oxydation des gîtes de Zn, associé à la calamine et l'hydrozincite.

Rare arséniate naturel de zinc hydraté, de symétrie orthorhombique, en cristaux violacés, jaunes, roses ou verts.

OBS

Cet arséniate hydroxylé de zinc et de cuivre, plutôt rare, se présente sous forme de petits cristaux allongés et tabulaires, groupés ou en encroûtements. Souvent transparents, incolores ou jaune pâle ou jaune-brun, vert pâle à vert vif (présence de cuivre) ou plus rarement roses à violets (présence de cobalt). Connue en France au Cap Garonne, en Grèce au Laurium, au Chili à Chanarcillo.

Blue ore was derived from cherty oxide lithofacies of iron-formation and is composed of fine grained, blue to dark grey-black hematite with lesser amounts of red hematite, martite, and brown goethite. It has a distinctly porous granular texture and contains primary ovoid granules or oolites of iron oxide replaced by later hematite or goethite, or enlarged by overgrowths of iron oxide. Blue ore may be friable to crumbly or nodular, or hard coherent and lumpy where a high proportion of secondary iron oxide cements relict fragments.

... colloform banding... is a very fine scale banding involving one or more sulphides very like the banding in agate. Some workers believe that it results from colloidal deposition and that the banding is analogous to the Liesegang rings formed in some gels. This banding is very susceptible to destruction by recrystallization and may be partially or wholly destroyed by diagenesis or low grade metamorphism, producing a granular ore.

Textures vary with the degree of recrystallization. The dominant original textures appear to be colloform banding of the sulphides with much development of framboidal pyrite, perhaps reflecting colloidal deposition. Commonly however, recrystallization, often due to some degree of metamorphism, has destroyed the colloform banding and produced a granular ore.
