English

Subject field(s)
  • Zoology
  • Ecology (General)
CONT

[An] example of the effect of apex predators on an ecosystem is the dramatic changes in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem recorded after the gray wolf was reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park in 1995. Elk, the wolves’ primary prey, became less abundant and changed their behavior, freeing riparian zones from constant grazing and allowing willows, aspens and cottonwoods to flourish, creating habitats for beaver, moose and scores of other species.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
CONT

... will the anti-acid capacity of the soil be sufficient to counteract the acid stress directly on the leaves, stems and seed pods of crops? For how long? And what of the thousands of square miles of agricultural land which is not fertilized, or the even larger areas of untended grazing land? What effect has acid rain had, what effect will it reveal, and how soon? At present, there simply isn’t enough scientific information to answer these questions.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution de l'air
DEF
