Great Lakes 2000(GL 2000) was announced in April 1994. It is a seven-year program, administered by Environment Canada, which represents the second phase of the Great Lakes Action Plan(GLAP), which ended in March 1994. The Great Lakes Action Plan is the Canadian counterpart of a similar U. S. plan, Assessment and Remediation of Contaminated Sediment(ARCS), introduced in 1987 under the direction of the Great Lakes National Program Office of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA).
