In 1992 Environment Canada established the Great Lakes Pollution Prevention Centre in Sarnia, Ontario as an arm's-length information clearinghouse for promoting pollution prevention as the preferred approach to environmental protection. In 1994 the Centre was incorporated as a non-profit organization, operating with a Board of Directors representing business, governments, labour, trade associations, and academia. In 1997 its name changed to the Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention(C2P2).
