Denunciatory sentences convey a message of social disapprobation, with the will of society expressed through the severity of the legal punishment. The seriousness of the crime is central to denunciation; there is little need to denounce shoplifting(although there may be a need to prevent such behaviour) but great necessity to denounce the intentional taking of human life(hence the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment for murder). 1, record 1, English, - denunciatory%20sentence

3, record 1, French, - peine%20exemplaire
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 1, French, - peine%20exemplaire

In 1970, the Ford Foundation initiated the Drug Abuse Survey Project to pinpoint more precisely what should be done to combat drug abuse. Its final report, Dealing with Drug Abuse..., analyzed in detail the great gaps in basic knowledge of drug actions within the body, psychological factors involved in deciding to use drugs, and the role of drugs in contemporary American society; it also made a strong appeal for more research. The report's practical outcome was the creation of the Drug Abuse Council(DAC), which funded studies on illicit drug abuse from 1971 until 1978. 3, record 3, English, - Drug%20Abuse%20Council

Culture is everyone's right and belongs to us all. Our cultural heritage, from great works of the imagination to art and culture in their many shapes and forms, belongs to society as a whole. Everyone must have access to culture, to understand and share in it, so as to enrich and stimulate their own creativity. This principle inspired representatives of the culture and social economy community to found the Journées de la culture in 1996. It was a symbolic cross-Quebec initiative, with the goal of making culture more accessible to everyone and by building bridges between the public and the culture community. 1, record 8, English, - Journ%C3%A9es%20de%20la%20culture

The viability of civil society in rural areas suggests a great potential for endogenous, integrated rural development. However, there are deficiencies. Beside co-operation, there are also tensions and divisions within local territories. Many of them rooted in the past. Local authorities of former centre and satellite villages often cannot get on well. 3, record 16, English, - satellite%20village

Steenwerck est un gros village. [...]

4, record 16, French, - village%20satellite
