Nevertheless, its light but piercing tone makes it eminently suitable both for melodies and providing a restrained chordal backing within an ensemble, and since its introduction to the island ... in the late 1960s ... and its subsequent popularization, it has taken firm root.

The Olympic Games, or Olympics, are an international multi-sport event taking place every four years and comprising summer and winter games. Originally held in ancient Greece, they were revived by a French nobleman, Pierre Frèdy, Baron de Coubertin in the late 19th century. The Summer Olympics(Games of the Olympiad) have been held every fourth year starting in 1896, except in 1916, 1940, and 1944 due to the World Wars. A special edition for winter sports, the Olympic Winter Games, was first held in 1924. The first Winter Olympics competitions were originally held as a non-olympic sport festival, but were declared to be official games by the International Olympic Committee in 1925. Originally these were held in the same year as the Summer Olympics, but from 1994 on the Winter Games and the Summer Games have been held two years apart.

Originellement tenus dans la Grèce antique, ils ont été mis au goût de l'époque et réintroduits par le baron Pierre de Coubertin à la fin du XIXe siècle; les Jeux Olympiques modernes ont lieu depuis 1896 tous les quatre ans (hormis lors des guerres mondiales). Depuis, seules la France et la Grèce ont participé à tous les Jeux. Les premiers Jeux Olympiques d'été ont eu lieu en 1896 à Athènes. Les Jeux Olympiques d'hiver ont été créés en 1924. Jusqu'en 1992, ils ont eu lieu tous les quatre ans, la même année que les Jeux Olympiques d'été (les années bissextiles). À partir de 1994, ils ont toujours lieu tous les quatre ans, mais décalés de deux ans par rapport aux Jeux d'été.

In January 1948 at the 42nd IOC in St Moritz, Switzerland, the International Olympic Committee(IOC) approved the idea of Olympic Day. This celebration would be used to commemorate the creation of the IOC on 23 June 1894 in Paris. Olympic Day was held for the first time on 23 June 1948 with a total 9 National Olympic Committees(NOCs) hosting ceremonies in their respective countries : Austria, Belgium, Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela. In an effort to encourage all NOCs to commemorate and celebrate Olympic Day, the IOC Sport for all Commission launched the Olympic Day Run concept with the objective of promoting the practice of participation in sport by men, women and children from all corners of the world and all walks of life, regardless of athletic ability. The first Olympic Day Run was held in 1987.

In the Rhône delta the warm rainy southeast sirocco is called eissero. On Zakynthos Island it is called lampaditsa.

EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental organisation created through an international convention agreed by 17 European Member States : Austria, Belgium, Danemark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Luxembourg will soon become the 18th Member State. These States fund the EUMETSAT programmes and are the principal users of the systems. EUMETSAT also has four Cooperating States : Slovak Republic, Hungary, Poland and Croatia. EUMETSAT's primary objective is to establish, maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites. EUMETSAT is responsible for the launch and operation of the satellites and for delivering satellite data to end-users as well as contributing to the operational monitoring of climate and the detection of global climate changes.
