3, record 10, French, - Trait%C3%A9%20de%20Paix

The Olympic Games, or Olympics, are an international multi-sport event taking place every four years and comprising summer and winter games. Originally held in ancient Greece, they were revived by a French nobleman, Pierre Frèdy, Baron de Coubertin in the late 19th century. The Summer Olympics(Games of the Olympiad) have been held every fourth year starting in 1896, except in 1916, 1940, and 1944 due to the World Wars. A special edition for winter sports, the Olympic Winter Games, was first held in 1924. The first Winter Olympics competitions were originally held as a non-olympic sport festival, but were declared to be official games by the International Olympic Committee in 1925. Originally these were held in the same year as the Summer Olympics, but from 1994 on the Winter Games and the Summer Games have been held two years apart. 3, record 24, English, - Olympic%20Games

4, record 24, French, - Jeux%20Olympiques

St. George is the patron saint of England. He is the patron of soldiers and archers, cavalry and chivalry, of farmers and field workers, Boy Scouts and butchers, of horses, riders and saddlers. He is also the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, Genoa Georgia, Germany, Greece, Istanbul, Lithuania, Moscow, Palestine, Portugal, and of Venice(second to St. Mark). According to legend, St. George, a soldier of the Imperial Army, rescues a town in what is now Libya from the tyranny of a people-eating dragon. St. George overpowered the beast and then offered to kill it if the townspeople would convert to Christianity and be baptized. The story is that there were 15, 000 conversions on the spot. Openly espousing Christianity was dangerous and eventually the authorities of Emperor Diocletian arrested George. He was martyred about 303 AD. 3, record 42, English, - St%2E%20George%27s%20Day

In January 1948 at the 42nd IOC in St Moritz, Switzerland, the International Olympic Committee(IOC) approved the idea of Olympic Day. This celebration would be used to commemorate the creation of the IOC on 23 June 1894 in Paris. Olympic Day was held for the first time on 23 June 1948 with a total 9 National Olympic Committees(NOCs) hosting ceremonies in their respective countries : Austria, Belgium, Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela. In an effort to encourage all NOCs to commemorate and celebrate Olympic Day, the IOC Sport for all Commission launched the Olympic Day Run concept with the objective of promoting the practice of participation in sport by men, women and children from all corners of the world and all walks of life, regardless of athletic ability.

In Europe, three countries, Germany, Greece and Austria stand out from the rest, alone representing 74. 3% of the solar collector surface installed as of today. Germany is in first place with a total of 2 630 000 m2 at the end 1998. Since 1991, the date which marked the real boom in thermal solar power in Germany, the country has experienced literally no interruption in the pace of its domestic market. For all of the 1990s, the average annual growth rate for surfaces installed in Germany has been 30%. Greece, with 2 493 000 m2 of installed solar collectors, has risen to second place in Europe... Among the other E. U. countries, France posts a total capacity of 654 600 m2 of solar collectors installed. If the surfaces installed in the different countries are expressed in terms of the number of inhabitants, then the hierarchical order observed in Table 1 is completely changed... Hot, humid, southerly winds in southern Italy, Sicily and Malta which originate over the Sahara but gain moisture on crossing the Mediterranean Sea. 2, record 83, English, - sirocco
Record number: 83, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The air comes from the Sahara(as a desert wind) and is dry and dusty, but the term is not used in North Africa, where it is called chom(hot) or arifi(thirsty). In crossing the Mediterranean the sirocco picks up much moisture because of its high temperature, and reaches Malta, Sicily, and southern Italy as a very enervating, hot, humid wind. As it travels northward, it causes fog and rain. In some parts of the Mediterranean region the word may be used for any warm southerly wind, often of foehn type. In the extreme southwest of Greece a warm foehn crossing the coastal mountains is named sirocco di levante. There are a number of local variants of the spelling such as xaroco(Portuguese), jaloque or xaloque(Spanish), xaloc or xaloch(Catalonian). In the Rhône delta the warm rainy southeast sirocco is called eissero. On Zakynthos Island it is called lampaditsa. 3, record 83, English, - sirocco

2, record 83, French, - sirocco
