OBS

Larva : 40 to 45 mm, smooth green to greyish-brown body with a whitish medio-dorsal line. On each segment there are 4 large black spots forming a square.

OBS

Host plants: Cruciferaceae (cabbage, turnip), tobacco, red beet, flax, lettuce, chicory, etc.

OBS

Damage. They occur particularly in June, then in September. The caterpillars [of the cabbage moth] destroy a large number of leaves and their frass accumulates in the central part of the cabbage or plant on which they develop.

OBS

Not to be confused with "cabbage moth" and "cabbage armyworm moth" which are the same insects but at the adult stage of their lives.

OBS

"Mamestra brassicae" is the preferred scientific name.

OBS

The most common type of four-aspect signal has four lenses arranged from top to bottom as follows : yellow, green, yellow, red. Modern LED [light-emitting diode] signals with just two lenses can show all four aspects. The lower lens is capable of displaying a red, yellow or green light. Not all lines use four-aspect signalling-three or two aspects are used where the headway and line speed allow.

... green-back... is a disorder in the fruit colour which encloses the surrounding of the calyx in different breadth more or less entirely. There is usually an exact line between the green and the remaining normal coloured fruit. This green-back can alter its colour after picking, but only to a yellowish red. The pulp underneath these distinctly different coloured parts of the fruit is hardened, therefore the fruit has no market quality. In the described part there is not only a lack of normal colour but also a lack of the starch conversion which is normal in the fruit. Also the discovering of the pectin filled middle lamella is missing.

CONT

The most common plant fouling on ships is the brown algae Ectocarpus spp. and the green algae Enteromorpha spp., often referred to as sea grass due to its similar appearance and colour. Polycellular algae begins with the settlement of microscopic spores. These spores can settle in seconds and colonise a submerged surface within hours. Plant fouling usually occurs where there is available sunlight, i. e. around the water line and a few metres below. It is not usually found on the flat bottom of vessels.

Clinical specimens are inoculated into cultures of Vero cells, a continuous line of African green monkey kidney cells. Following inoculation, Vero cell cultures are kept and observed for one week, after which time the supernatant is used to inoculate fresh Vero cell cultures and total RNA is extracted from the cells.

French

Domaine(s)

CONT
