The processes used for salting cod are generally the same in most areas and time periods, with some local variations. The colonial New England cod fishery is typical. Cod was either "dry cured" or "green cured. "For a dry cure, fish were usually cleaned, split, salted, and then stored aboard ship after each haul so they would not deteriorate at sea. Once the the ship returned to shore, the fish would be repacked, resalted, and eventually sun dried into tough, durable slabs that could be stacked and stored like wood. Dry curing was used when fishers traveled long distances to fishing grounds. In contrast, green curing, in which the fish were cleaned, salted, and dried on land rather than at sea, was used on shorter trips to nearby fishing grounds.... Because it was a faster process, green curing did not wring as much water out of the fish as dry curing. Green-cured fish therefore was considered to be of lower quality and did not last as long. 3, record 1, English, - green%20fish

Cold brachythecium moss(Brachythecium frigidum)... is a shiny moss that can be green, brownish, rich golden or golden brown in colour, that exists in moderately dense mats. This species is very common in western North America and can be confused with other species despite having distinctive characters. The leaves have a somewhat auriculate base formed by the convex group of enlarged pellucid alar cells, a conspicuous row of large cells across the insertion, strong plication and evenly serrulate to serrate margins. Cold brachythecium moss can be found in soil in wet places, moderate shade to open sun, on rock and fallen trunks. It is found in Alberta and British Columbia in low to high elevations ranging from 0 to 3, 300 [metres above sea level]... 1, record 3, English, - cold%20brachythecium%20moss

Absorption of radiation has many different effects on substances depending on the wavelength of the radiation. All objects whose temperatures are above absolute zero emit energy proportional to their temperature. This is called thermal energy. This energy is emitted in the form of electromagnetic radiation whose average wavelength is inversely proportional to the object’s temperature. When the sun sets, sometimes the last bit of light from the disk itself is an emerald green. The same is true of the first bit of light from the rising sun. This phenomenon is known as the "green flash" or "green ray". It is not an optical illusion. The green flash is common and will be visible any time the sun is rises or sets on a "clear", "unobstructed", and "low" horizon.... The explanation for the green flash is thus, 1) refraction separates the solar images by color; 2) at just the right instant, the red image has set, 3) the yellow image is absorbed; and 4) the blue image is scattered away. We are left with the upper limb of the green image. Because the green flash is primarily a refraction effect, it lasts longer and is easier to see from a mountain top than from sea level. 3, record 9, English, - green%20flash

3, record 9, French, - rayon%20vert

As stated before, the atmospheric conditions which are most favorable for the Green Flash are a calm and stratified atmosphere. When the Sun is a few degrees above the horizon, it appears distorted and flattened in the vertical direction(although the azimuthal size hardly changes). The closer it gets to the horizon, the more flattened it gets. Soon, the edge of the sun will become "notched" on either side. These notches appear to "ride" up the sides of the Sun from bottom to top; however, in reality, the notches are caused by the atmospheric layering and aren’t moving-it's the sun which is setting through them. 1, record 11, English, - atmospheric%20layering
