HFCs [Hydrofluorocarbons] are produced synthetically and are used primarily as refrigerants. They became widely used for this purpose beginning in the late 1980s, with the introduction of the Montreal Protocol, which phased out the use of chemicals such as halons and chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs) that contribute to the depletion of Earth's ozone layer. However, while HFCs have an ozone depletion potential of zero, they are potent greenhouse gases, and thus their manufacture and use became increasingly regulated in the 21st century. 8, record 1, English, - hydridofluoridocarbon

2, record 1, Spanish, - hidrofluorocarburo

Climate models use quantitative methods to simulate the interactions of the atmosphere, oceans, land surface, and ice. They are used for a variety of purposes from study of the dynamics of the weather and climate system to projections of future climate. The most talked-about models of recent years have been those relating air temperature to emissions of carbon dioxide ... These models predict an upward trend in the surface temperature record, as well as a more rapid increase in temperature at higher altitudes. 3, record 2, English, - climate%20model

Scientists have been attempting to model how changes in the levels of greenhouse gases are going to impact on the earth's climate over the next century. Current climate models do simulate recent climate change remarkably accurately. However, such models are sensitive to large numbers of parameters and the effects of small perturbations on them is not well understood. 4, record 2, English, - climate%20model

1, record 3, French, - Fonds%20pour%20le%20climat

[World Meteorological Organization]. GAW was established in 1989 as a coordinated system of networks of observing stations some of which began data-gathering in the 1950s and includes associated facilities and infrastructure encompassing measurement and related scientific assessment activities. The overall role of GAW is to supply basic information... indicative of the atmospheric environment that transcends specific issues. The measurement programme includes :greenhouse gases, ozone..., radiation... and optical depth, precipitation chemistry, chemical and physical properties of aerosols, reactive gases, radionuclides, and related meteorological parameters. National and international policy decisions affecting the environment in the 21st century will thus relay heavily on the scientific data gathered through GAW. 2, record 4, English, - Global%20Atmosphere%20Watch

My principal purpose with "Global Warming : Are we entering the greenhouse century?" is to make the basic issues and policy implications of global atmospheric change more accessible to the public... Incidentally, to answer responsibly the question posed in the subtitle of this book takes eight chapters.
