Gypsum plasterboards consist of a gypsum core encased in, and firmly bonded to, strong durable paper liners to form flat rectangular boards. The paper surfaces may vary according to the use of the particular type of board, and the core may contain additives to impart additional properties. The longitudinal edges are paper covered and profiled to suite the application.

Le Grand Robert, d'ailleurs, ne le définit pas comme une marque commerciale (contrairement à LAROG (Grand dictionnaire encyclopédique Larousse) et à BABAT (Dictionnaire technique du bâtiment et des travaux publics)), mais comme un terme technique.

L'expression «panneau de gypse», en usage chez DOMTAR Inc., est, malgré son emploi très répandu au Québec, à éviter selon nous. Le gypse, en effet, se rapporte au minéral que l'on rencontre dans la nature, qui est communément appelé «pierre à plâtre», et qu'on utilise pour faire le plâtre, et non au plâtre coulé entre deux feuilles de carton que constitue le placoplâtre.

Le néologisme «gypsoplaqué» offre l'avantage de pouvoir engendrer des dérivés : gypsoplaquer (verbe); gypsoplacage (nom d'action), etc.

Most vinyl roofing membranes are sealed using hot air, which can be compared to welding metal. The process joins two rolls of membranes at the overlap areas (without using another dissimilar material) to create one monolithic layer that covers the entire roof. The heat-welded, permanently fused seams on vinyl roofing membrane form a watertight seal, and their peel strength can be critical to the roof system’s long-term performance against wind forces.

ROOF technology allows old roof membrane to be renewed without removal. ROOF technology is based upon a thermochemical treatment of bitumen roof coating. With heat applied to a section of roof coating bitumen and bituminiferous mastics start melting. Imbued with own bitumen, roof coating gains improved waterproofing capabilities. Once cooled such coating becomes a tough monolithic layer, smooth and watertight.

Hot-applied rubberized asphalts consist of proprietary blends of asphalt, mineral fillers, elastomers(natural, synthetic, or a blend of both), virgin or reclaimed oil and a thermoplastic resin. It is applied hot in such a manner as to form an impermeable monolithic membrane over the surface to be waterproofed, which may be concrete, gypsum board or wood. Improved versions of this type of system consist of two coats of rubberized asphalt with a polyester mat in between, called the fully reinforced or two-ply system.

Drywall is a common building material used for the finish lining of interior walls and ceilings. Drywall is also commonly referred to as gib board or gib in New Zealand.(GIB is a registered trademark of Winstone Wallboards.) Gypsum board or plasterboard in the UK [United Kingdom] and Ireland, Rock lath or sheetrock in the United States, Gyprock in Australia and Canada(GYPROCK is a registered trademark of CSR Building products Australia) and referred to as Rigips in Eastern Europe and Germany. A drywall sheet is basically made by sandwiching gypsum plaster between two sheets of paper to form a liner.
