gyromagnetic compass: A directional gyroscope whose azimuth scales is maintained in alignment with the magnetic meridian by a magnetic detector unit. 1, record 1, English, - gyromagnetic%20compass
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The gyrosyn compass combines the functions of both the directional gyro and the magnetic compass. It provides stable compass headings in rough air, is north seeking like a magnetic compass, but is free from northerly turning error and oscillation. It does not precess and, therefore, does not require resetting as does the directional gyro. The gyrosyn compass system incorporates a flux valve that senses the earth's magnetic lines of force through electromagnetic induction. 6, record 1, English, - gyromagnetic%20compass

6, record 1, French, - compas%20gyromagn%C3%A9tique

[Ring laser gyro] By placing mirrors at each end of a triangular cavity(two of the mirrors possess 100% reflectivity while the third allows partial transmission of 0. 2% for signal detection), the photons traveling parallel to the cavity will be reflected back and forth many times. The mirrors are usually of the hardcoated multi-layer-dielectric type(MLD), and they become the end of a resonant cavity, producing a positive feedback necessary to sustain oscillation. 1, record 2, English, - hardcoated%20multi%2Dlayer%2Ddielectric%20mirror

If the weight is increased, the rate of precession is increased. If the weight is decreased, the rate of the precession is decreased and the ellipse will broaden. The period of oscillation for undamped gyro is 113 minutes, and as the spin axis seek the meridian some means is required to suppress this oscillation so that it will come to rest in north direction. 3, record 3, English, - rate%20of%20precession

A further use of gyroscopes is found in their employment as stabilizers, as on aircraft and ships, to keep inertial guidance systems steady despite the sometimes violent motions of the vehicles. In such cases the gyroscope is made very large and given a large amount of angular momentum. The rate of precession will then be very small, since the precession is inversely proportional to the angular momentum; this small rate of precession means that the system resists angular displacements. 4, record 3, English, - rate%20of%20precession
