1, record 1, French, - culbutage
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
2, record 1, French, - culbutage
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 1, French, - culbutage

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Angular rate gyro accuracy is characterized by two parameters : scale factor and drift. The scale factor describes the capability of the gyro to accurately sense angular velocity at different angular rates... Gyro drift characterizes the ability of the gyro to reference all rate measurements to the nominal zero point. It appears as an additive term on the gyro output, so any actual drift away from a given or predetermined value will cause the angular errors to accumulate. 3, record 3, English, - gyro%20drift
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The free gyro... can be converted to a directional reference by remounting its case with the spin axis horizontal and the indicator axis vertical. The indicator will then give the airplane's heading. Gyro drift is countered by slaving the instrument to the Earth's magnetic field, via either a separate magnetic compass or a flux valve device. 5, record 3, English, - gyro%20drift

5, record 14, French, - assiette%20de%20l%27avion

Angular rate gyro accuracy is characterized by two parameters : scale factor and drift. The scale factor describes the capability of the gyro to accurately sense angular velocity at different angular rates. This value is used to convert the voltage output from the gyro into an angular rate. System imperfections can cause small variations in the scale factor. These variations appear as a factor at the output of the gyro. Gyro drift characterizes the ability of the gyro to reference all rate measurements to the nominal zero point. 3, record 15, English, - angular%20velocity
Record number: 15, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Angular velocity is the time rate of change of angular displacement. More simply it is a measure of how fast an object is rotating. For example, the measure of a skater’s spinning speed during a sit spin is called angular velocity. Angular velocity is calculated by subtracting the initial angular position from the final angular position and dividing by the time it took to get from the initial to final position. Angular velocity is measured in radians/second (SI units) or degrees/second or revolutions/second (English units). 4, record 15, English, - angular%20velocity

It appears as an additive term on the gyro output, so any actual drift away from a given or predetermined value will cause the angular errors to accumulate. 2, record 19, English, - angular%20error

The attitude indicator(also called the artificial horizon or the gyro horizon) provides the pilot with an artificial horizon as a means of reference when the natural horizon cannot be seen because of cloud, fog, rain or other obstructions to visibility... The attitude indicator relies on the principle of gyroscopic rigidity in space--the rapidly-spinning rotor disk resists any attempt to disturb its orientation. Thus, the gyro provides a stable horizontal reference against which the pitch and roll attitudes of the aircraft can be measured. The "artificial horizon bar" on the face of the attitude indicator is mechanically coupled to the gyro inside, so it remains parallel to the natural horizon. The instrument's little "symbolic airplane" is fixed to the instrument case, however, so it follows the roll and pitch movements of the real airplane. Consequently, the relationship of the horizon bar to the symbolic airplane is the same as the relationship between the natural horizon and the real airplane. 5, record 23, English, - natural%20horizon

The vacuum-drive heading indicator is the simplest of many types of gyro-controlled directional indicators designed to provide stable heading reference.... Errors. The chief cause of precession, causing the card to creep or drift, is bearing friction. Normal movement of the gimbal rings produces friction, which is increased if the bearings are worn, dirty, or improperly lubricated. Other sources of precession error include unbalanced gyro components and the effect of the earth's rotation. 2, record 29, French, - axe%20de%20r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence%20de%20rotation

Gyrocompassing oriented the vehicle to an orbit plane yaw reference by detecting a component of the programmed pitch rate through the roll horizon sensor. The geocentric pitch rate(typically 4 deg/min, for a low-altitude orbit) was programmed as a constant torque to the pitch gyro. A beam of light traveling around the path in the direction of rotation will have to travel farther than one traveling in the opposite direction of rotation, and the pathlength difference can be used as a measure of angular rotation. 1, record 49, English, - closed%20optical%20path

1, record 49, French, - trajet%20optique%20ferm%C3%A9

A free gyro that is not slaved to any Earth reference(as the vertical and directional gyros and the gyrocompass are) will tend to maintain a fixed direction in inertial space, that is, with respect to fixed stars. Then as the Earth rotates, the angle between the axis of such a gyro and an arbitrary line on the Earth will change, and to an Earth-fixed observer the gyro will appear to precess. 3, record 50, English, - slaved

The Rover navigation system uses a directional gyro to keep track of the Rover heading ... and rotation counts on the four wheels to determine distance driven, range back to the LM [lunar module], and bearing to the LM. (Jones - "I had thought, originally, that the Nav system used inertial...") (Irwin - "When you say inertial, you normally think of inertial as three-axis inertial. Here, you’ve only got a slave gyro and one axis for heading.") (Jones - "A single-axis gyro.") 4, record 50, English, - slaved

L'Horizon artificiel.
