A gyroscope instrument for indicating direction, containing a free gyroscope which holds its position in azimuth and thus indicates angular deviation from a pre-set heading. 12, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The heading indicator (HI) uses the principle of rigidity in space for it’s operation. The gyro is mounted such that it registers changes around the vertical axis only; i.e. direction changes. The compass card attached to the gyro appears to the pilot as though it is turning. In reality, it and the attached gyro are remaining rigid in space, while the aircraft and case turn about the gyro. The HI is not automatically synchronized with the magnetic compass. It must be set to the compass heading while level on the airport surface prior to take-off. 13, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT

Angular amplitudes and rates, and linear accelerations were measured with a six-axis-gyroscope. High-frequency vibrations were characterized with a triaxial accelerometer. Additional measurements from an onboard gyroscope with better resolution were used as a correlation factor between the two gyroscope systems. Fourier analysis of angular amplitudes and linear accelerations determined relevant frequencies for the system. Sources of error for the gyroscope system such as temperature drift and axes misalignment were identified and characterized. 2, record 4, English, - platform%20axes%20misalignment

Notice that there is no knob to set the heading of the DG [directional gyro] to match that of the compass. Why? Because it is slaved. Slaved? Back in the tailcone of the aircraft, away from all ferrous metal, is a magnetic compass. The output of this compass is electrically "enhanced" and amplified through a "flux gate"... This signal is fed to the HSI to drive the DG portion of the unit. What this means is that the reading is very accurate, not subject to the vagrancies of the regular magnetic compass, and is constantly being corrected for drift. On some aircraft, this signal is also used to slave the ADF heading card. 2, record 5, English, - corrected%20for%20drift

Dead reckoning is a technique of computing the position of a vehicle from its distance and heading measurements. It is an inertial system which uses two independent sensors from which distance and heading information can be extracted. Because each position is relative, cumulative drift errors occur on an average of 2% of the distance traveled. The system consists of a magnetic compass or gyroscope for heading and odometer for distance. Dead reckoning is often combined with map matching to correct for drift errors. It performs well when combined with highly accurate digital maps. It can also be used to back up GPS during satellite visibility outages. 3, record 10, English, - cumulative%20drift

Gyroscope drift rate effects are usually classified into three groups... The final group consists of drift rates proportional to the square of the off-axes acceleration. This is called the nonisoelastic or compliance effect. 1, record 11, English, - nonisoelastic%20effect

2, record 13, French, - quantification%20angulaire

Gyroscope drift rate effects are usually classified into three groups. The first group is independent of applied acceleration... The second group includes effects proportional to translational acceleration. This group covers such things as static unbalance of the inner gimbal assembly, i. e., the displacement between the center of support or buoyancy and the center of mass. 4, record 14, English, - translational%20acceleration

Selon [...] 3, record 14, French, - acc%C3%A9l%C3%A9ration%20de%20translation
