Heaton Mint : A private mintoriginally founded by Ralph Heaton in 1850, the Heaton Mintwas used by the Royal Mintin London to meet some of the coinage requirements of Canada and Newfoundland until 1904. All Canadian coins minted there carry and H mintmark except the P. E. I. one-cent coin which carries none. The Royal Canadian Mintuses no mintmarks on Canadian coins. During the years 1908-1919, when Imperial sovereigns were struck in Ottawa, the letter C was used as a mint mark.
