H-R DIAGRAM [2 records]

Record 1 1978-05-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Astronomy
OBS

A conspicuous sequence of red stars with large radii in the H-R diagram of a typical globular cluster that extends from the main-sequence turnoff point upward and redward to the red-giant tip.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Astronomie
OBS

Record 2 1977-09-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Astronomy
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
  • Geological Research and Exploration
OBS

With both its spectral class and luminosity class known, a star's position on the H-R diagram is uniquely determined. Its absolute magnitude, therefore, is also known, and its distance can be calculated. Distances determined this way, from the spectral and luminosity classes, are said to be obtained from the "method of spectroscopic parallaxes".

French

Domaine(s)
  • Astronomie
  • Mesures et analyse (Sciences)
  • Recherches et prospections géologiques
OBS
