Klason lignin.... It is the material remaining after 72% H2SO4 hydrolysis of resin-free pulp expressed as % of oven-dried pulp. Up to 20%, or even more, of the lignin may dissolve in the acid, depending on the pulping process and whether the pulp is partly bleached. The amount of dissolved lignin can be measured by ultraviolet spectroscopy(a 280 or 210 nm), and is called U. V. lignin. Therefore, total lignin=Klason lignin + U. V. lignin. 1, record 1, English, - U%2EV%2E%20lignin

A treatment, most often SO2, but in some cases H2SO4 or HCl, applied a) After a final chlorine dioxide, hyprochlorite or peroxide stage to destroy residual bleaching agent and remove metal ions which prevents brightness loss and avoids fibre degradation, and to create a pH favourable for brightness stability(alkaline pulps tend to yellow on exposure to light and air) ;b) As a pretreatment before an oxygen stage, which tends to improve both brightness and physical strength, probably by removing metal ions from pulp; and c) Between stages, such as peroxide-hydrosulphite, to eliminate the washing steps by creating acid conditions necessary for the hydrosulphite stage, and to destroy residual peroxide by reduction which would otherwise consume costly hydrosulphite; d) Has been used in place of a chelation stage in a TCF sequence with peroxide. In this application the PH is very important. 1, record 2, English, - acid%20treatment

1, record 2, French, - traitement%20%C3%A0%20l%27acide

Investigations have shown that 60-70 per cent of the potentially available amount of H ions in precipitation originates from SO2, and to some extent from H2S which have been oxidized to H2SO4... The acidity of precipitation also depends on the contribution of alkaline ions(e. g. Ca) which neutralize the acids... The local washout of alkaline ions exceeds that of acid ions. 1, record 3, English, - acid%20ion

1, record 3, French, - ion%20de%20l%27acide
