In 1930, Wolff, Parkinson and White described a series of young patients who had a bundle branch block pattern on electrocardiography(ECG), a short PR [preexcitation] interval, and paroxysms of tachycardia.... the term Wolff-Parkinson-White(WPW) syndrome was coined in 1940. In 1943, the existence of an accessory connection between atria and ventricles was confirmed, which is about 50 years after Kent's description of myocardial fibers that were believed to conduct from atria to ventricle. The term preexcitation... indicates an additional excitatory spread in the ventricles of the heart, coupled to auricular excitation. WPW syndrome is not the only form of preexcitation, but it is the most common. 2, record 2, English, - Wolff%2DParkinson%2DWhite%20syndrome

Developing Hormosira banksii embryos, used as bioassays in toxicity studies, identified ammonium as a toxicant in secondary treated sewage effluent discharged at Boags Rocks, Victoria, Australia. Ammonium did not affect fertilization but had a significant effect on germination at 48 h and cell division at 72 h with most damage occurring in the first 48 h. Ammonium showed a similar effect as whole effluent(when expressed as mg N l-1 ammonium), sampled in June, September and November 1997, on developing H. banksii embryos. This similarity is further confirmed with comparable EC50(concentration causing an effect on 50% of the population tested) and LOEC(lowest observable effect concentration) values. Mean EC50 values for the ammonium bioassays were 3. 19 mg N l-1 for germination and 6. 14 mg N l-1 for cell division. 4, record 15, English, - effect%20concentration

4, record 15, French, - concentration%20effective

Pure juice ciders are now rare. Virtually all commercially available ciders are made from juice concentrates generally from China and South America. The ciders made from concentrate must be reconstituted into a must before fermentation. France, for a long time, had the toughest legislation forbidding the use of concentrate when making French cider. However, in 1987, after years of lobbying from countries outside of France which produce cider from concentrate at a much cheaper cost, the French Government decided to allow the use of up to 50% concentrate in a cider but, at the same time, created the "PURE JUICE CIDER" standard for the Normandy cider makers who wanted to keep their traditional cider making techniques using only 100% apples grown in Normandy. 2, record 17, English, - pure%20juice%20cider

The Invention of Dutch Cocoa. Coenraad Van Houten, a chemist and chocolate manufacturer in Amsterdam, patented an invention that was soon to change chocolate from a beverage to a confection. He had devised a process for making chocolate powder by using hydraulic pressure to remove almost half of the cocoa butter from chocolate liquor. This reduced the fat content from over 50% to about 25%, and made a hard cake that could be pulverized. Then, in order to make this powder easier to mix into warm water, he treated it with alkaline salts, which also made the color darker and removed some of the bitterness. This treatment came to be known as "Dutching. " 1, record 19, English, - Dutch%20cocoa

South Africa had controlled Namibia, which it called Southwest Africa, since defeating the German colonizers during the First World War. Starting in the early 1970s, a low-level guerrilla war had been waged against the South Africans by the Southwest Africa People's Organization(SWAPO). In 1988, South Africa had decided to grant the territory its independence, and the UN prepared to oversee the transition process. The United Nations Transition Assistance Group(UNTAG) involved approximately 4, 500 military and civilian observers from over 50 of the UN member countries. The purpose of UNTAG was to conduct a year-long preparation for the country's independence elections, and then monitor those elections in November 1989. 5, record 22, French, - Groupe%20d%27assistance%20des%20Nations%20Unies%20pour%20la%20p%C3%A9riode%20de%20transition
