Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
Haem enzyme containing ferric ion, of molecular weight 250, 000. It catalyses the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. It occurs in many tissues, especially liver, where it is located in the peroxisomes. 2, record 1, English, - catalase
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Peroxisomes contain most of a cell’s catalase. In addition, they contain one or more enzymes that use molecular oxygen to remove hydrogen atoms from specific substrates.... Catalase utilizes the H2O2 generated by these other enzymes to oxidize a variety of substrates - including phenols, formic acid, formaldehyde, and alcohol - by the "peroxidative" reaction. 3, record 1, English, - catalase

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
2, record 1, French, - catalase
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 DEF
Oxidized form of haemoglobin that is unable to bind oxygen because the ferrous atoms of the haem group have been oxidized to their ferric state. 1, record 2, English, - methaemoglobin
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In the normal function of hemoglobin and myoglobin the iron atom does not undergo change in valence as oxygen is bound and lost; it remains in the Fe(II) state. However, both hemoglobin and myoglobin can be oxidized to the Fe(III), or hemin, form by oxidizing agents such as ferricyanide, with a change in color from red to brown. The respective products, which do not function reversibly as oxygen carriers, are called methemoglobin and metmyoglobin. In the cytochromes, however, the iron atom undergoes reversible changes between Fe(II) and Fe(III) forms; cytochromes serve as electron carriers, whereas hemoglobin and myoglobin act as ligand (oxygen) carriers. 3, record 2, English, - methaemoglobin

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Cytochrome oxidases include cyts aa3, a1, d and o(bacteria typically have more than one type of cyto, chrome oxidase). The electron transport choose in the animal mitochondrion appears to have only one type of cytochrome oxidase, cyt aa3, which resembles the bacterial cyt aa3 in containing two haem a molecules and two copper atoms; in at least some plant mitochondria there is an additional cyanide-resistant cytochrome oxidase. 2, record 3, English, - cytochrome%20oxidase

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 3, French, - cytochrome%20oxydase
