It was found that [the] unhairing... process was slower with green hides than with salt cured hides; hair removal started 30 to 45 minutes later.... These differences can be explained by the influence of salt during [the] curing of hides. The salting and subsequent rehydration processes remove many soluble substances including blood proteins, simple carbohydrates, collagen and proteoglycans. 2, record 1, English, - salt%2Dcured

2, record 1, French, - saumur%C3%A9

Proteins can be placed in two major classes, fibrous and globular.... Fibrous proteins are physically tough and are insoluble in water or dilute salt solutions. Examples are collagen of tendons and bone matrix, [alpha]-keratin of hair, horn, skin, nails, and feathers, and elastin of elastic connective tissue. 3, record 6, English, - fibrous%20protein
