1, record 4, French, - cycle%20du%20combustible%20ferm%C3%A9

An X-ray tube providing rectification of the high voltage by itself. 1, record 6, English, - self%2Drectifying%20tube
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
This is accomplished when an X-ray tube is connected directly to the secondary windings of the high voltage transformer without any intervening rectifier. When the cathode is negative with respect to the anode, electrons will flow from the cathode filament to the anode and produce X-rays. During the next half of the electrical cycle, the anode is negative with respect to the cathode, and electrons could flow in the opposite direction. However, as long as the anode is kept cool, no electrons will be emitted from the anode, and no current will flow. The result is that of half wave rectification, where only half of the cycle of the high-voltage current is used to produce X-rays. 1, record 6, English, - self%2Drectifying%20tube
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 2 OBS
An obvious disadvantage of self-rectification, as opposed to supplying the X-ray tube with an already rectified direct current, is that exposure times must be increased since X-ray production occurs during only half of the time the current is applied. Secondly, repeated exposures could heat the anode to such an extent that electrons are also emitted from the anode. This could result in a reverse flow of electrons in the X-ray tube with excessive heating and destruction of the filament. 1, record 6, English, - self%2Drectifying%20tube

A typical multi-head breaker is a rubber-tired, self-propelled unit which carries 1, 000 to 1, 500 pound hammers mounted laterally in pairs. Half of the hammers are in a forward row and the remainder diagonally offset in a rear row so that there is continuous breakage from side to side. Each pair of hammers is attached to a hydraulic lift cylinder which operates as an independent unit. Each unit can develop between 1, 000 and 8, 000 foot pounds of energy depending upon drop height selected. The units can cycle at a rate of 30 to 35 impacts per minute. The typical machine is eight foot wide and carries twelve hammers eight inches in width. An extension wing, carrying two 1, 500 pound hammers, can be added to each side for a total breaking width of up to 13 feet. Pavement breaking can be as narrow as 2. 67 feet or increased in increments up to 13 feet. Double-slit interference.... Young's experiment.... To explain the pattern of Figure 30. 2b, we accept the tentative hypothesis that light is a wave motion and that Huygens’ principle is applicable. Then we can understand the origin of the bright and dark lines by the following reasoning : A wave front from S reaches slits A and B. Each point on this wave front acts as a new source of Huygens’ wavelets. Since A and B are equidistant from S, the Huygens’ sources at A and B both send out crests at the same time, and half a cycle later both send out troughs. The waves from A and B arrive at the screen DF in such a way that at some points crests meet crests(Fig. 30. 2) and troughs meet troughs, thereby giving constructive interference and a bright line. At other points the troughs meet crests and crests meet troughs, resulting in destructive interference or darkness. The bright and dark bands on the screen are called interference fringes. 3, record 9, English, - trough

The CargoLifter is an airship, which can carry up to 160t of freight like a crane. Goods up to the size of 12 x 5 x 5 m can be carried at a speed of 100 km/h. Maximum range is 10. 000 km.... The advantage of CargoLifter is, that transport can take place in rural areas with little or no infrastructure. Transport times are cut by a factor of 10 and the complexity of the project is reduced significantly.... The loading cycle will take about half a day to unload and 3/4 days to load. The CargoLifter can take 72 TEU in a box, but the weight volume ratio is very low(1 : 20). The weight alone would account for 136t or 85% of the payload. The remaining 44t can take 2800 cubic meters of space(weight to volume of 1 : 62).... CargoLifter will use marine diesel engines and propellers for thrust. Installed power is expected to be 9. 3 MW, for a top speed of 135 km/h. The average speed will be about 100 km/h, which requires about 5 MW and an hourly fuel consumption of 1 tonne(specific fuel burn approx. 200 g/kWh). 3, record 15, English, - CargoLifter

Dirigeable géant. 2, record 15, French, - Cargolifter

3, record 15, French, - Cargolifter

An ambiguity in the frequency represented by sampled seismic data. Where there are fewer than two samples per cycle, an input signal at one frequency yields the same sample values as, and hence appears to be, another frequency at the output of the system. Half of the frequency of sampling is called the "folding" or "Nyguist" frequency, fN;a frequency larger than this, fN+Y, appears to be the smaller frequency, fN-Y. The two frequencies are "aliases" of each other. 2, record 16, English, - alias

... drug trials are usually run in the first half of the working day. That happens to coincide with the first half of the daily sleep cycle of the laboratory mouse, when relatively low levels of DNA are synthesized... When the drug passes the mouse test, it generally goes on to a clinical trial with real cancer patients. These initial trials are also carried out in the first half of the working day [when] the level of DNA synthesis in people is at its highest-the reverse of its level in mice. Thus a potentially useful drug that works well in mice may well be prematurely discarded as too toxic. 2, record 17, English, - mouse%20test
