The insertion of piton into a crack by means of a hammer or by hands. 5, record 1, English, - placing%20of%20piton
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In hard, solid rock select a crack wide enough to admit one third to one half of the piton shaft before driving the piton in. The placing of pitons in soft, rotten rock is often not practical. When this type of rock must be scaled, loose rock from the crack should be removed before setting the piton. 6, record 1, English, - placing%20of%20piton
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Many of the skills of piton placing can be gained only by practice, and once again an occasional hour spent experimenting with pegs on a boulder can give valuable knowledge. 2, record 1, English, - placing%20of%20piton
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 3 CONT
Placing Pitons: The placement of pitons is normally the function of the leader ... Ideally, a piton should be inserted into a crack 1/2 to 2/3 of its length and driven hard to the hilt. A ringing sound, steadily increasing in pitch, usually indicates a solid piton. 4, record 1, English, - placing%20of%20piton
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Using pitons is known as "pegging" and taking them out is called "de-pegging". This English word is gradually replacing the French one in Britain. 3, record 1, English, - placing%20of%20piton

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 1, French, - pitonnage

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
When a turbine comes to rest, after operating, the cooler denser steam tends to collect in the lower half of the cylinder and makes the lower half of the rotor cool quicker than the upper half. This causes the shaft to hog(bend upwards). When at rest and cool, the shaft will begin to sag under its own weight. If the turbine shaft is not rotated, hogging, especially above a critical temperature, can become permanent and the shaft would have to be sent to the manufacturer for heat treatment and straightening. 1, record 3, English, - hogging

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
1, record 3, French, - fl%C3%A9chissement%20vers%20le%20haut

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 DEF
The structure used in a mine shaft for the conveyance of men and materials. 4, record 5, English, - cage
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The approximate weight of a steel cage is 1 1/2 times that of the coal it carries, or about equal to the weight of the coal and the mine cars. Cages are usually designed to take one or two cars per deck and may be single or multi-decked. Where multidecked cages are used, simultaneous or consecutive discharge of decks can be employed. The modern trend is towards consecutive decking with power-operated cage unloading equipment. Cages can be either steel, composite or all-alloy construction. An all-alloy cage is about half the weight of its all-steel equivalent. The cage is suspended from bridle chains which in turn are attached to the cappel of the winding rope. Normally there are two cages in simultaneous operation in the shaft and travelling in opposite directions. 4, record 5, English, - cage

According to Bengt Beckman the worlds first cryptomachine was swedish... The machine, called in 18th century swedish :"Chiffre-Machinen", consisted of 57 wheels mounted on a common shaft. These wheels were housed in an oblong cylinder. On half of the circumference of each wheel, the normal ordered alphabet was engraved, and on the other half numbers between 0 and 99 were likewise engraved, but in mixed order, with each of the 57 wheels having their own mixed sequence. On one side, along the length of the cylinder, was a slot wide enough to allow one letterposition of all the 57 wheels to be seen, and on the opposite side a similar slot allowed a row of 57 figures to show themselves. 2, record 6, English, - ciphering%20machine
