Hydraulic door opener. This manually-operated spreader is relatively lightweight. It consists of a hand pump and spreader device. The spreader has intermeshed teeth that can be easily slipped into a narrow opening such as between a door and a door frame. A few pumps of the handle cause the jaws of the spreader device to open, exerting pressure on the object to be moved. The pressure usually causes the locking mechanism or door to fail.

Double-action hand pumps produce fluid flow and pressure on each stroke of the handle. The double-action hand pump consists essentially of a housing which has a cylinder bore and two ports, a piston, two spring-loaded check valves, and an operating handle. An O-ring on the piston seals against leakage between the two chambers of the piston cylinder bore. An O-ring in a groove in the end of the pump housing seals against leakage between the piston rod and housing.

A vacuum-splint provides a quick form-fitting limb and/or spine immobilization during rescue and transportation to medical facilities.... When the valve is open, internal pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure allowing the device to be wrapped around the body part to be immobilized. Next, a hand vacuum pump is attached to the valve and a vacuum is created. This brings the walls of the device down on polystyrene beads internally which compress and form fit to whatever it is initially wrapped around. At the same time it becomes extremely rigid and can no longer be manipulated until the valve is open again allowing internal pressure to return allowing removal of the device.
