When an electronic or hard copy system is queried using search criteria, a record is found matching sufficient criteria to confirm that it is the correct record, e. g. a search to identify a certain individual with the search criteria "Name : John Smith, DOB(date of birth) : 1962-01-16" may return 10 hits matching the name "John Smith, "but a positive hit will also include a matching DOB, or if the DOB is not available, a positive hit will also match at least two other pieces of identifying data, such as address and phone number.
